    2. Peter Langley
    3. He could tie in with my Cork Fowlers, but with the Irish records being as depleted as they are, there is not much hope of finding a connection. However, as Fermoy was a British Army Garrison town, maybe you should think along the lines of his father being from England and stationed there. 1. [FOWLER] To Jim Re. Fowler Cemetery
    2. Jim, I am responding to your Oct. 26th question about the Fowler Cemetery near Woodruff in Spartanburg Co, SC. This cemetery contained 18 graves and is being restore to it's original condition - and improved. As I understand the new owner of the land removed the tombstones and the relative who lived nearby told him that was against the law and a protracted lawsuit ensued. I think the relative kept the stones instead of their being hauled away with some tree stumps etc. which was about to happen. Lee Smith did a marvelous job of following through on this litigation for over two years and overseeing the reconstruction of the gravesites. He's our hero! It is my understanding that Francis Fowler and his wife Lucy were buried there. They are my direct ancestors. Their graves had tombstones with names and dates which had been placed by relatives at a later time. Some were just field stones as many old cemeteries were. This gravesite goes back to the late 1700's in my understanding. I have visited the site twice 1) after it was destroyed and 2) later when it was being restored. I want to visit again soon just to see how many tombstones are readable, etc. How can I help you? Marian Cooper Bryan

    2. Brenda, In the House of Fowler by Grover Parsons Fowler, I find an Adolphus T. Fowler born Sept 22, 1848 died Aug. 18, 1909 who married Fanny Denny (b. 1858) on Aug 30, 1876 on pages 100 and 101. He was from the Granville Co, North Carolina Fowlers and in the 5 sons and daughters listed there is no ED. but the timeline is so close, I thought you may wish to know. Marian Cooper Bryan

    1. Re: [FOWLER] Archibald FOWLER, G'ville, SC
    2. Delores, BTW, I'm sure you are aware that Grover Fowler wrote in House of Fowler that he had a hunch that Archibald Fowler was the son of Joseph Fowler (son of Godfrey Fowler) of Spartanburg who later may have moved to Tenn. on the bottom of page 236, the author states: " I am reasonably sure that David and perhaps Archibald Fowler of Greenville Co, SC were his (Joseph's) sons. Evidently, you have found reason to doubt this statement in your research. I just ran across this and felt sure you already know it is here. Marian

    3. Family story: Ancestor Fowler was on the crusades with King Richard, when, answering a call of nature during the night, he stood on a cactus plant in his bare feet, letting out an almighty shriek, which aroused the whole camp which thought it was being attacked. At this point, the enemy did in fact attack, and the King being so impressed by Fowler's obvious good eye site, knighted him on the spot, and instructed him to henceforth wear the head of the vigilant owl as his crest. Incidentally my Fowlers came from Cork in the south of Ireland, but I don't think we are related, and there may have been two or more other branches who settled here.
