    1. Robert FOWLER (c1757 - 1848) of Somerset and Dorset, England
    2. Peter Ferreira
    3. Looking for the parents, siblings and ancestors of my Robert FOWLER, who was probably born in Somerset in c 1757/58. He lived in Somerset and Dorset in England. On April 2nd., 1781, in Cricket St. Thomas church, Somerset, Robert FOWLER of that parish (c1757 - 1848) married, by licence, Mary PHELPS, of Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset, England, in the presence of John FOWLER and Jane FOWLER. Robert and Mary lived in Cudworth, Somerset, England; Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset; and Abbotsbury, Dorset, England, where Mary died in 1811 and was buried. Robert was churchwarden in Abbotsbury, in 1812. Robert and Mary had issue: 1. Unice FOWLER, baptized in Cudworth, in 1782; 2. Robert FOWLER, baptized in Cudworth on January 6th., 1784; 3. Mary FOWLER, baptized in Cudworth on May 17th., 1785; 4. Joseph FOWLER, baptized in Cudworth on May 29th., 1787; and 5. Anna FOWLER, baptized in Shepton Beauchamp, on April 25th., 1792. The parents were noted as being from Maiden Newton. Robert FOWLER died in Winterborne Whitechurch, Dorset, England, on June 11th., 1848, aged 90, and he was buried in Abbotsbury, Dorset, England. Peter, from Toronto, Canada, born in Salisbury, Wilts.

    1. Re: [FOWLER] NY Fowlers
    2. Darline Smith
    3. Caren (and any others researching Fowler's in NY in the 1800's). My Great Grandfather was Ezra (Alonzo/Elonzo/Lonzo) Fowler, bn 1842, Ohio. Father, (given name unknown), Fowler was listed on census records as being born in NY, except in 1920, as being born in NY. Mother (unkown name, given or surname) was listed on census records as "born at sea, coming from Scotland". I have no information as to what year. Educated guess would be 1808 to 1820. I have the dates of GGrandfather Ezra (Alonzo/Elonzo/Lonzo) Fowler documented for each year from his birth, Ohio, to his death, Kansas, except for 1850 and 1860. I know, from CW records, that he was in Ohio in 1861 (105th Ohio) and New York in 1862, 2nd NY, Co G. But 1850 is a mystery and probably holds the answer to the names of his parents and siblings. I have spent a lot of time researching the names above (plus the names within the family ) on the Internet, Ancestry, and various libraries. I have a little information on an Alonzo Fowler, which seemed very promising at the time, but when I found 1850 census for this Alonzo and my Ezra was not listed, I discarded the possibility, but kept most of the information in a file. I am going to list what I have and you may already have it. I know there was more than one Alonzo Fowler. The Fowler families I have researched were travelling adventurers and often left towns, churches, businesses, etc., labelled with the Fowler name. (Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas). 1830 US Census...New York, Livingston, York... Alonzo Fowler.... Males- age 20 to 30 (1) Females- Under age of 5 (1) Females- age 15 to 20 (1) There is a "Wells Fowler" listed next door and this name(Wells) shows up often in NY Fowler research. There is a "Fowlerville", a village in Livingston County, New York, named for Wells Fowler, the first settler there. 1850 US Census...New York, Livingston, York...Alonzo Fowler, age 46...wife Eliza, age 39, assumed to be children were..Mary, age 20..Frances, age 18..Emily, age 12..William, age 10..Grace, age 3..and also listed with the family was Mary Eastman, age 76, born Canada. Not at all sure this is the same family as in the 1830, but there is a Wells Fowler listed in the same census in Livingston, New York, town of York. 1860 US Census...Wisconsin, Milwaukee...4 ward Milwaukee...Alonzo Fowler, age 56.. wife Eliza, age 48.. Mary, age 30 married to a clergyman, Th. (thomas?) Wordsworth... Emily, age 21..Wm. H. age 19..Grace C., age 13.. It would be reasonable to conclude this family is the same as the Alonzo family in NY in 1850. ages and names match up. I found an Alonzo in 1870 in Michigan, not the same as the above. Also an 1860 Alonzo in Conn, Litchfield Co, not the same as the above. As I said, you probably have all of this. If you have anything of interest on my Ezra Alonzo that you may have picked up in doing research, I would appreciate receiving it. Sincerely, Darline Fowler Smith I have the Michigan Land Records that you mention. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Carenonly@aol.com> To: <FOWLER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 30, 2004 10:30 PM Subject: [FOWLER] NY Fowlers > Carlene & everyone researching NY Fowlers, > > My line begins with an Alanzo/Alonzo Fowler. 1. Fowler's in NY
    2. My line begings with my Grandfather who is a Fredrick Thomas Fowler born in NY but I don't know where. All of the documentation I have on Fred Fowler and his wife, my grandmother, show a different name for the spouse. 1. Dad's SScard shows his parents as Fred and Nora Pheilean Fowler 2. My fathers obit. shows his parents as Fred and Anna Fowler 3.The 1910 Census that might possibly be my grandparents show Fred and Hannah Fowler with two sons Cornell age 2 and Frederick Fowler 5/12. My father Cornell, was born in NJ, according to the 1920 census, but it shows his father,Frederick Fowler as being born in NY. My father says he lived in Utica NY but then he moved to Moravia NY and was raised by a cousin as a young boy. I don't know where his brother went to live. If any of this sounds familiar, I would be interested in hearing from you. Thanks Anne

    1. NY Fowlers
    2. Carlene & everyone researching NY Fowlers, My line begins with an Alanzo/Alonzo Fowler. All I know about him is from my grandmother's Bible & a 1900 federal census for Aitken Co, MN. His son, Fred Fowler is my great grandfather. Fred was born in MI. The 1900 census says his parents were born in NY. I have found a land record in MI for an Alonzo/Alanzo Fowler of Livingston Co, NY that MIGHT be my gggrandfather. I haven't been able to locate a record listing the offspring of this fellow so am unable to verify his relationship. My instinct is yelling at me. I tend to believe he is either Fred's father or, maybe. grandfather. This line MIGHT be out of either VT or MA, as I have found the name Alonzo in these states in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Again, unable to locate lists of children to verify a possible relationship. According to my grandmother's Bible, my Alonzo married a woman who's surname was Small. I have found a record of an Alonzo Fowler marrying an Elizabeth Small in Erie Co, NY. Unable to find any further info on this couple, unless they are the ones in Livingston Co. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone out there, please feel free to contact me - either on list or at my addie. Thanks everyone for their time & effort. Caren

    1. Fowler, John C. b. @1818 KY Fowler, Jackson H. Peter b. @1815 KY
    2. I know everybody must be sick of my same old queries but I am just stuck and can't locate anything on this pair of (I think) siblings. I first lay eyes on info about John C. Fowler and Jackson H. Fowler when a Robert Fowler signs a piece of property over to them in Osage Co. MO in 1843. Then John C. Fowler marries Olivia Heath in Gasconade Co. MO in 1843. John C. Fowler and OIlivia are in Saline Co. MO 1850 but I don't locate Jackson H. Fowler ANYWHERE in 1850 1860 Jackson H. Fowler is in Osage Co. MO with SECOND wife Josephine Goellner (m. May 12, 1855 Osage Co. MO) who was from Prussia. Jackson H. Fowler had children from a prior marriage. They had the following family that I know about: Thomas Fowler b. @1847 MO George Washington "Wash" Fowler b. @1849 Henry Fowler b. @1856 John Theodore Fowler May 30, 1863, (m. Pearl Smith?) Charles George Fowler b. May 11, 1866 Jackson H. Fowler and a partner, Wm. Creed, built a steamship about 1860 to sail the Osage River. But the Governor ordered it sunk and the bridge blown up to keep General Lyon and Army out of Jefferson City during the Civil War. Jackson H. Fowler would die June 24, 1866, in Osage Co. MO. Josephine Goellner Fowler would then marry Francis Schroeder July 30, 1867, at St. Joseph's Church, Osage Co., MO. I believe Francis Schroeder was related to the William Creed who built the steam ship with Jackson H. Fowler. I do not know what happened to the descendants of Jackson H. Fowler, I don't know who his first wife was? I never located him on any census except the 1860 Osage Co. MO Census. I would love more information on him. I believe there must have been other siblings of John C. Fowler (my ancestor) and Jackson H. Fowler and I know my John C. Fowler traveled a lot and there were often other Fowler's near places he lived but I do not know if they were related to him or not? I know some of Olivia Heaths family seemed to travel with John C. and Olivia Heath Fowler. Olivia Heath Fowler had an Aunt, Olivia Heath who was married to John Ross Gray and they were all near each other in Saline Co. MO 1850 and then in Denton Co. TX 1860 but John G. Heath, brother of Olivia, died about 1868, in Osage Co. MO is that what brought John C. Fowler and family back to MO? We find John C. Fowler and family in Newton Co. MO 1870. Then we last find John C. and his wife and youngest two daughters in Searcy Co. AR 1880. John C. would be dead by Dec. 31, 1889, it shows his widow, Ollivia Fowler as widow of John C. Fowler on the deed. John C. Fowler and Olivia Heath Fowler had the following children: Ellen Fowler b. @1843 MO D. William Fowler b. @1845 MO (my ancestor) never located on census after 1860 Isabella Fowler b. @1850 MO never located on census after 1860 Mary Ann "Mollie" Fowler b. @1855 TX Martha "Ollivia" Fowler b. @1865-1868 TX (Census records vary on birth, it could have been earlier). That is the children I know about. I know Ellen married a Cornellius Lewis (b. @1835 Ireland) on Mar. 17, 1861 Collin Co. TX and then I never locate them again. I lose Isabella altogether, don't know if she married or died or both. D. William Fowler I lose from the 1860 Census until he shows up in Searcy Co. AR @1877. But Meg Gentges located a marriage for him in Osage Co. MO 2 April 1871 to Herriett Elizabeth Weddel and said they had 1 daughter, Amanda but both appear to have remarried. My D. William Fowler married Cassandra Minerva Jane Enterprise Goodman Sep 1, 1878. They had 1 son John Henry Fowler b. Jan. 6, 1880. D. William Fowler was dead by 1884 when Cass Goodman Fowler remarried to a Laborn Stafford. I do not know the date he died but I heard that he, and his parents are buried near Oliva Fowler Matchett at Canaan Cemetery outside Marshall, Searcy Co. AR. I never heard of anybody locating headstones. John C. and Olivia Fowler's youngest daughter married a Francis Matchett 1883 and they raise 3 sons in Searcy Co. AR. Mary "Mollie" Ann was a little bit more optimistic and married 5 times 1. Date & place unknown Robert Meek (who abandoned her and baby, William Meek(s) b. @1874. 2. Jan. 1879 Searcy Co. AR James Clark Thomas, a widower with 6 children and they had several before he died. 3. 1889 Conway Co. AR - Henry Britton, she divorced him, he did not like her children 4. Date and place unknown, first name unknown she married a Mr. Tucker of Texas and she shows up on the 1910 Ada, Pontotoc Co. OK she shows as owning a hotel and has a daughter, Fannie Beatrice Thomas (1) Archer (2) Talley and son-in-law, William Talley, and small grandson, William Emory Archer, with her. I assume her daughter and son in law are helping her to run it. I heard that Fannie had returned to help her Mother when Fannie was widowed and her son was a baby. 5. Mollie is alone raising grandchildren after that until Mar. 4, 1931 Oklahoma City, OK where she is a blushing bride for the last time at the age of 76 when she married Henry Ha, she died Mar 29, 1938 in Oklahoma City, OK. I am helping one of Mary "Mollie" Ann's grandchildren, Fern, that Mary "Mollie" Ann helped to raise before Fern's Father took her away, leaving Fern's half brother, William Emory Archer, for Mary "Mollie" Ann to raise. Fern had located her Grandma, Mary "Mollie" Ann not long before Mollie Ann died but Fern did not have much time with her Grandma that day and never saw her again. Fern never met Henry Ha that day, Fern was a young girl and was having car trouble and had driven a long way (for a girl during that day and age) and she was afraid of the long drive home. Fern is over 90 now and she is a charming, alert, witty woman and still interested in her Fowler line. She is not able to do research herself but is always delighted when I locate any information and, of course, I always share with her immediately. I have been stuck for quite a while now. Any help appreciated. I know everybody is sick of my queries but I keep hoping to locate a descendant of Jackson H. Fowler and hoping they will have an idea of siblings or parents of Jackson H. Fowler, or at least where in KY he is from so I can narrow down the search. Thank you for your time. Charlene

    2. Caren, I have little information on John Fowler Sr, except from DAR records which state that he was born 1740 Scotland. He died 1785, Syracuse NY. He served as a private in Capt. Benjamin Aylsworth's co. Albany Co. NY Militia. He and Eliza Ann Keith, were married, assuming NY. John and Eliza had 2 sons, that I can document. They were both born Albany Co. Ny. 1.William Fowler was b 1779, d 1865, Calistoga, Napa CA. Lots of history on him, he was quite influential during the time of the settling of Ca. when it was a Mexican territory. He was a master carpenter.... I have been led to believe that the Fowlers were Architects, Teachers, Lawyers, and in Politics. 2.John Fowler (my lineage) born 1782 Albany Co. NY d 1860, South Bend Indiana. John m. Elizabeth Howey. Their son (my gr grandfather) was a military man, served in Mexican War, and was a Col. in the Civil War. Have lots of research done on both John and William and their families, just can't get back beyond John Sr. Albany NY. I have had no success in connecting my John SR. to the numerous Fowler descendents in New England. Do you have any links with any Fowler's who have those professional interests?
