Fowler researchers, Its been awhile since I posted an inquiry. Does anyone have information on my husband's Fowler family? I am most interested in the parents of America M. and his wife Nancy Towns. He may have been called Mac. In the one census I found the family, the name appears to be Moon Fowler, others have read it Moore. WANDA, Hello! I have FOWLERS in CALVERT CO MD that I am researching. Also there were BEAUCOUPS of FOWLERS in DC & BALTO. I am trying to find info on SUTTON FOWLER, b.ca. 1798 who apparently married an ELIZABETH SWEARINGEN from BROOKE CO WVA(VA?) per LDS on-line site records. SUTTON FOWLER had a daughter named ELIZABETH JANE (ELIZA JANE) b.ca.1825-1830 who married WILLIAM COCHRANE, and emigrant from IRELAND and they lived in CALVERT COUNTY MD. I have some family records from a cousin who received them from a MARQUESS who still lives in CALVERT COUNTY. I have received emails which tell me there were 2 separate branches of FOWLERS in CALVERT CO and they were in different voting districts and apparently no one has connected them to this point (at least that is what the folks who answered my query tell me.) My side of the FOWLERS apparently also has the MARQUESS connection, so this may be a place to start. I am the listowner of the CALVERT CO MD's rootsweb mailing list. If you wish to subscribe and post a query, you are most welcome. To subscribe, send an email to: [email protected] and simply write the single word SUBSCRIBE in the body of the message. Nothing else or it will bounce. I do have a little FOWLER info that I just received from another cousin who found me on the internet. If you are interested, please contact me at: [email protected] Bonnie McVoy Treon (I am also posting this on the list in case anyone else is looking for MD FOWLER CONNECTIONS.) I have a Gr Gr Gr Grandfather John Fowler who married Amelia Cross in 1853, in Marion Co. OH. In my search for his ancestors, I saw quite a few Fowlers in Marion, and Gauga Counties. There is a book about the first settlers in Gauga county where several Fowlers are listed. I still haven't found his parents yet, but thought this might be of interest to the Ohio discussion. A. Hello Wanda, thanks for your addition to the Fowler's in Ohio discussion. This may be grabbing at straws because the names are frequently so similar. But....the name of Hezekiah's wife was the same middle name of my grandmother. Florence Isabella Fowler (1871 - 1947 ). Lots of Biblical names (Elisha, Daniel, Hezakiah, etc). I wonder if this is just a sign of their times, or was there one branch that handed down religious names. In my Dimick line there is the same mini-phenomenon, just as it no doubt appears in other families. Just brainstorming out loud to try to stimulate thoughts and the discussion. Wonder if anyone has a map of Ohio handy where we could plot these various families to see if we can "cluster" them. RD >FOWLER: Hezakiah born 1786 in Maryland. spouse Isabella and 2 children >still at home. His son by same name age 25 lives nearby with spouse >Catharine. >
Hi, I have one branch of FOWLER family in Ohio and will post to maybe help sort out and find mine too! FOWLER; Daniel born 1793(from LDS info) in Maryland spouse: Alice b-1794 children still at home in the 1850 Jacksontown, Darke Co. Ohio census: (on line) Clark born Oct 1831 in Ohio Ruth 1836 next dwelling: is an Allen FOWLER born 1818 in Ohio spouse Nancy and 6 children. Don't know if Allen was an oldest son or younger brother! Also on same census is: FOWLER: Hezakiah born 1786 in Maryland. spouse Isabella and 2 children still at home. His son by same name age 25 lives nearby with spouse Catharine. I don't know how Daniel and Hezakiah are related yet but they both have PICKET and MARQUIS (in same census) marriages in the family! (I have those records) Haven't found FOWLER family in Maryland yet! Wanda
Hello! Like you, I'm new on the trail of Ohio Fowler's. I don't even know enough of the lay of the land to know where Butler County is, but I do know that Licking County, near Columbus, is where my branch lived. I wonder if we might be able to work together to draw a connection. My search is for Henry Zebina Fowler (1842-1913 m. Mary Ella DeVaughn (???-1914). HZ's father was Daniel (1807? - ???) m. Mary Ann ???, dates unknown. Other children in their family according to the 1850 Census in Licking County are: Sarah, age 10 Rosalia, age 6 Charles, age 4 Theodore, age 1 Also living in that household was Elizabeth Wyncoop, age 50. I know who all of Henry Zebina's children were, but know nothing at all about the children of his siblings. HZ enlisted in the Civil War in Iowa, was wounded at Shiloh in 1862, and was mustered out in Cincinnati in 1862. He lived subsequently in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. He died in Claremore OK in January 1913. I also know/suspect that he must have lived in MIssouri, because that is where his daughter Florence Isabella (my grandmother) married my grandfather, Lewis Elmer Dimick. I don't even have a clue on where to look to find our connection, but I know that Daniel was descended from Elisha Fowler (1782). Both Elisha and Daniel were born in Massachusetts according to the census records. There is a census record of John Fowler who is 31 in 1850. His wife was Caroline age 28. Their children were Orcella age 8, Vinetta age 6, and Lucella, age 1. I suspect this John Fowler to be another son of Elisha, but it's only conjecture on my part. Hope this helps and I hope MORE that it confirms some information you may have. Since I'm new to the list, is this too much to put on here? Should I be sending this in private mail? Y'all "old timers" on the list feel free to slap my hands. Roger Dimick Beaumont, Texas
There has been a lot of activity about Fowler's in Butler Co., Ohio. Here's mine: Job Newton Fowler born 1843 in Butler Co., Ohio to Alfred Fowler and Harriet (Mulford) Fowler. Job had two or three siblings, but no names. I have no information on his parents except their names. Job (and maybe parents) moved to Marshall Co., Illinois about the time of the Civil War. Job joined the 47th INF. Job was married twice. No information on first wife, but second wife was Lucy Wilmot. Job moved to Ellsworth Co., Kansas in the 1880's, where he died in 1906. I really need help with this line. I have been stuck for a few years now. Debbie Fowler-Harrell Email: [email protected] PO Box 413 Vandemere, NC 28587

The following was posted on another list. Please reply to <[email protected]>instead of the list as this person is not a subscriber. They received answers to their question asking what the document means. Just would like to pass it on for anyone who may find an ancestor. If you find a connection, they would like for you to contact them. Please note the surname Rooke also, if this is in anyones line. Thanks, Joan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------- My husband and I came across this document when we were in NY a couple of summers ago. My memory was jogged by the Family Tree Maker CD with Amos Rooke on it, so I went looking for this document. We don't understand it! Would anyone like to take a stab at it? I typed in all the names thinking someone might find a long lost relative. Hope to hear from you soon! Jana Rooke ******* The New York Genealogical and Biographial Record Vol. XIX, 1888 pg. 180-185 MEMORIAL OF NEW YORK LOYALISTS. The following Loyalist memorial I have lately found in the Nova Scotia archives. So far as I know, it has never hitherto been printed. I am sorry to say that I can find no date for it, but I presume it was offered some time in 1782. Benjamin Rand To his Excellency Sir Guy Carleton, Knight of the most honorable Order of Bath, General and Commander in Chief, &c., &c., &c. The Memorial of The Subscribers Humbly Sheweith That your memorialists having been deprived of very valuable Landed Estates and considerable Personal Propertys without the Lines and being Loyalty to their Sovereign and Attachment to the British Constitution and seeing no prospect of their being reinstated had determined to remove with their Families and settle in His Majestys Province of Nova Scotia on the Terms which they understood were held out equally to all his Majestys persecuted Subjects. That your Memorialists are much alarmed at an application which they are informed Fifty Five Persons have joined in to your Excellency solliciting a recommendation for Tracts of Land in that Province amounting together to Two Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand Acres and that they have dispatched forward Agents to survey the unlocated lands and select the most fertile Spots and desirable situations. That chagrined as your Memorialists are at the manner in which the late Contest has been terminated and disappointed as they find themselves in being left to the lenity of their Enemys on the dubious recommendation of their Leaders they yet hoped to find an Asylum under British Protection little suspecting there could be found among their Fellow sufferers Persons ungenerous enough to attempt ingrossing to themselves so disproportionate a Share of what Government has allotted for their common benefit and so different from the original proposals. That your memorialists apprehend some misrepresentations have been used to procure such extraordinary recommendations the applications for which have been most studiously concealed until now that they boast its being too late to prevent the effect.Nor does it lessen your Memorialists surprise to observe that the persons concerned (several of whom are said to going to Britain) are most of them in easy Circumstances and with some exceptions more distinguished by the repeated favors of Government than by either the greatness of their sufferings or the importance of their services. That your memorialists cannot but regard the Grants in Question if carried into effect as amounting nearly to a total exclusion of themselves and Familys who if they become Settlers must either content themselves with barren or remote Lands Or submit to be Tenants to those most of whom they consider as their superiors in nothing but deeper Art and keener Policythus circumstanced. Page 181 Your Memorialists humbly implore redress from your Excellency and that enquiry may he made into their respective Losses Services Siturations and Sufferings and If your Memorialists shall be found equally intitled to the favor and protection of Government with the former applicantsthat they may all be put on equal footingBut should those who first applied be found on a fair and candid inquiry more deserving that your Memorialiststhen your Memorialists humbly request that the locating these extensive Grants may at least be postponed untill your Memorialists have taken up such small portions as may be allotted to them. Hannah Fowler married Rodney Million in 1810 in Madison County, Kentucky. Her marriage permission was signed by Ann Fowler. Their son, Eli Richard Million ,stated on the Jackson County, Kentucky Census that his mother was born in Maryland. There were Fowlers from Maryland in Madison County well before 1800. Which family did Ann and Hannah belong to? Thanks.
