    3. Reply to C T Jewett: Here is what I know about John Fowler & his family: (about 10 years ago my mother found and copied the following, which was located in a file folder in a local library) John & Maolly Fowler. He had state grants for land on Durbin Creek of Enoree River 1785-1790. Other Fowel;rs in the area, relationship unknown, but likely. He may ahve been the one who served in the Revolutionary War. His Laruens will dated 20 July 1787 (Bk. A-1, pg 32) was recorded with appraisal 4 June 1791. The household was lsited in the 1790 census in Mary (Molly) Fowler's name. The will does not mention Molly's two children, as it is clear that the nine cihldren named were of a previous marriage and other records (census, etc) cofirm this. In fact the witness of a John Fowler to the 1787 will may indicate that the witness was a son of a still earlier marriage and had already received his portion. The nine named were: Thomas Mitchell Fowler, Priscilla Stone and 'seven with me at this instant'; beloved daughter Deborah, beloved son Moses, beloved daugther Tabitha; beloved sons Jesse, James, American Joel. Strangley, Mosses recied not land as the other sons did but 20 shillings as the daughters did, all 'beloved'. Dearly beloved wife Mollya life time 150 acres of a 200 acre tract on the mouth of Durbin Creek and Enoree River. Thomas Mitchell the raimaing 50 acres plyus, at Molly's decease or remarriage. Thomas Mitchell to recieve Molly's 150 acres. The other grant was left in 50 acre tracts to Jesse, james, American and Joel, all of whom soon sold their portion and migrated elsewhere. In 1838 after wife Molly's death, Edith, widow of Thomas Mitchell Fowler and other heirs, lviing in Georgia and Alabama, claimed from Zachariah Gray and William Fowler the 150 acres which had been Molly's (Laurens Deed Bk. N, pg 262). Zachariah and Caroline Charlotte had moved to the Dials Community before this and William Fowler moved about 1850 to Texas. Most of his large family of about 20 children moved with hi8m (many records there). American Fowler moved from Spartanburg Co., SC to Madison Co., Chippiwa Territory, Alabama and Mississippi and by 1850 he was in Hot Springs Co., AR (many records" There are some interesting items in this. What are some thoughts about other marriages of John? Keep the listed posted, please, with comments. Donna L.
