    3. STACIA: Do you know anything more about this Hezekiah FOWLER? My Elexious was in Frederick County, MD during the American Revolution .... looks like Hezekiahwas too! I'm in the middle of moving ... all my info is packed ... I'm even borrowing my mother's computer because mine is packed .... so I can't give you any other info on Elexiou right now. He seems to be one of those hard to find ancestors, though. If the name sounds familiar, or if you know anything more about Frederick County FOWLERS, I'd love to hear from you! 1. Re: [FOWLER] Henry Patterson Fowler
    2. Hello, With all this Fowler stuff being hot right now, I might as well post again. I have Monica *Nica* Fowler b. 1817 m. Coleman Shelby b. 1815. They were in Union Co., NC, BUT as you know it could have also been SC. I have Coleman's parents as William Shelby and Elizabeth Trull of Union Co., NC.???? I have no idea who Monica belongs to in this mess. Does anyone recognize these names? Thank you, Joy

    1. [FOWLER] Henry Patterson Fowler
    2. Many of you are looking at Fowlers in South Carolina and Georgia and I wondered if anyone has run into a Henry Patterson Fowler who was born about 1831. I can't seem to find anything on his earlier life,ie parents, birthplace. He appears in Oktibbeha, Mississippi where he married his second wife Sarah Williams Pearson. He already had two children then. Do any of you know any Pattersons marrying into a Fowler line in Georgia? He is a mystery I would love to solve!!! gabriele

    3. Kay, The way I see it we must be kin. I really believe your John is my Richards Brother. Someone else wrote the same thing recently saying that they were brothers. Don't remember who wrote it though. Could you send me your Fowler gedcom? I think you did but My computer crashed and I lost lots of stuff. I'm still looking for the book "House of Fowler" which has lots of info on our line, I think. My sister xeroxed many pages of these Fowlers and Parts of it is missing, so maybe our info is in the missing pages????? Is the book you mentioned still available to buy? If so does it mention Johns brothers and his parents? David ======Original Message============ From: C T Jewett <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: [FOWLER] SC John Fowler Date: Mon, 06 Sep 1999 12:49:44 -0400 Sherry in Texas and I have discovered common ancestors through the List, and while some of our info might better be sent dirent, I thought others might be interested in this. As I told David Payne (through the list) I have a book from which I derived much of my information, including the WILLS of JOHN FOWLER ,SC,1787, and of JOEL FOWLER, DEKALB CO GA, 1853. (previously printed on this list) The book that I have is GREATNESS WITHOUT FAME, by Loaz and Maybeth Johnson. It was published in 1967 by Brigham Young Press (Maybeth was evidently Mormon, but I believe Loaz remained Methodist as was his family). His Grandmother was the daughter of my greatgrandfather's twin brother (Joel M- William Albert, born 1832 in Hall Co GA) This Johnson couple made several trips through GA and SC tracing about 8 families (The others were JOHNSON, SPRIGGS, LAND, STORY, PRICE, HARDEMAN, PRUITT and BIRD. Although he rambles a bit, he had some interesting tidbits. He described the gathering of FOWLER information like working a jigsaw puzzle... He found a bit here and a bit there and put it together, but it was only after I had studied the book for several months that I found some connection, right there in his book, which he had not made, which involved my great grandfather W.A.Fowler. His earliest proof of Fowlers went to Lauren SC, where John lived : "We found evidence that John Fowler must have been a prominent and well-to-do citizen in his day. He had received two or more Land Grants from the Honorable William Moultrie, Governor of the State of South Carolina. One of tehse grants made in 1785, consisted of 200 acres of choice bottom land southeast of Durbin Creek where it flows into Enoree River. These names sounded so romantic that we just had to see the spot. Records show that John Fowler had built a house and cleared 20 acres of this land several years before the Revolutionary War. W e could see the location from the highway, but there were no buildings standing at the time......Enoree River had enough fall above the place to provide power to operate a mill, It was a paradise for fish and wild game." He went on to rave about the beauty of the place and what a thrill it was to imagine our ancestors there. I'll try for more next time....if anyone is interested. 3. More from GREATNESS WITHOUT FAME, by Loaz Johnson, Brigham Young Press, 1967 (The Johnsons were treking around Lauren, Greenville and Spartenburg, SC where they found many Fowlers and Fowler descendants.) "John and Molly Fowler had nine children, six boys and three girls. We learned very little about these children We did learn that after the boys were grown and married this family probably owned two or three thousand acres of land. As John settled and lived not far from where Lauren, Spartenburg and Greenville came together, the boys were scattered around in these three counties. We stopped at a store not far from this place and the owner told us he was living on a place once owned by the Fowlers. He showed us a house which he said was built by the Fowlers. He was using it as a barn, but one could tell it was once a substantial log house. He said that one of the boys who was not physically normal lived there until he died. " We found several Fowler tombstones in the cemeteries of this region, but we could not tell for sure whether they were related to our John. There was a Francis Fowler and a Richard Fowler, and another John. The trouble was they all seemed to have children with names the same as ours!" Loas and Maybeth Johnson were only able to trace the descendants of Joel, the Youngest child, leaving room for much research. Here is their family: Fowler, John, b. abt 1740 d. bef June 4, 1791 in Lauren County, SC. md abt 1763 Molly ________(probably Mary) b abt 1742, d aft 1791 Children: Thomas Mitchell Fowlerb. abt 1764 Pricilla b abt 1766, md bef 1787 STONE Deborah b. abt 1768, Moses b. abt 1770 Tabitha b abt 1772 Jesse b abt 1774 James b abt 1776 America b abt 1778 Joel, b abt 1780 (age 70 in 1850 census, SC Lauren CO.) d. 2. I am still searching for Archibald FOWLER, d.1840, Greenville, SC, md. Edith WEST dau of Alexander WEST. Archibald was supposed to be the son of John or poss. Joseph FOWLER and came fr. NC to SC. Archibald and Edith (Edy) had 11 children, only 3 sons by the names of Alexander (her father), West I. (her maiden name), and John W. Fowler (could that be his father's namesake?) I think some of the FOWLERS mentioned on the list lately are related but don't know how exactly. Here are the daughters of the above: Rachael, Leah (twins, b.1790), Lovey (Lucy), Lavina, Luna, Louisa (twins, b.1801), Jessfy, Mary. I don't know the 3rd set of twins. The girls born in 1801 married twin brothers by the last name of MILLER. Would love to hear from anyone with info on these FOWLERS. I am descended from Leah and John MAHAFFEY through her daughter Edith MAHAFFEY GREER. Rachael is STILL a huge name in my GREER family. My mother, me, my child, and so forth!!! Godspeed... Dolores Rachael Miller Pringle Myrtle Beach, SC (waiting for Dennis not to hit us!)
