Author: Lace_Lynch Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.foust/741/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Gordon "Gene" Foust, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away Sunday morning, February 14, 2010 in his home. He was 91. Gene was born March 15, 1918 in Galion, Ohio to Gordon and Edith (Curran) Foust and was graduated from Galion High School in 1938. Following high school Gene was drafted into the Army during WWII. Gene served in the Pacific Theater as a morse code operator working closely with Navaho Indians sending and receiving coded messages to other troops. On November 13, 1948 Gene married Dorcas Case and soon after Gene began working with Lloyd Barr who owned 20th Century Pattern Work. After Lloyd's death Gene bought the business and operated it for over 20 years. Musically inclined, Gene was self-taught at playing the guitar as well as mandolin. A talented carpenter, he often made picture frames, dressers and bookshelves for family and friends. Gene also enjoyed the outdoors. Throughout his life he hunted squirrel, pheasant, and rabbit, and when his children were younger Gene would take them to the Clear Fork Reservoir on fishing trips. In his younger years Gene bowled in area leagues and was a member of the VFW and AmVets in Galion, Ohio. He is survived by his six children, son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Janet Keller of Galion, daughter, Pat Graska of Lexington, Ohio; son, Gordon R. Foust of Mansfield, daughter, Penny Eyerly of Mansfield, and sons, Kenneth Foust of Lexington and James Foust of Tucson, Arizona; 13 grandchildren, Suzie, Tracey, Ty, Johnathon, Jeff, Amy, Guenever, Meagan, Crystal, Craig, Misty, Jessica and Dustin; 29 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Monica Foust of Galion; sister, Daisy "Tootie" Casto of Marion, Ohio; and numerous nieces nephews and extended family. Along with his parents; Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorcas Foust; sister's, Magdalin Wilson and Betty Mae Ginder; and brothers, Johnny and Leslie Foust. The Foust family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Military honors performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will follow. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
