This would eliminate all evening and Saturday hours and greatly harm the ability of the average genealogist to access the records. For full details, see http://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/2006/nr06-125.html While the Archivist of the United States was at the FGS conference he reported that they had received very little feedback from the country's genealogists asking for reconsideration. He was also presented with a request from the chair of the FGS Records Preservation Committee to consider some alternatives and a petition was started to allow genealogists to express their disagreement with the changes and to endorse alternatives that will allow the evening and Saturday hours to continue. His great-grandfather was Samuel (and Laura Sills) Foust born 1868-1869 in Wells County, Indiana. We believe Samuel was the son of Jacob (and Ruth) Foust born about 1824 in (probably Morrow County) Ohio and one of 11 children. Jacob Foust's mother was Mary Foust widowed before 1850. Jacob appears in the 1850 census for Cardington, Morrow County, Ohio at age 26 living with his mother Mary and two sisters Christina and Emily on the family farm. We have no idea who Jacob's father was other than that he and Mary were born in Pennsylvania. Censuses before 1850 show only the name of the head of household so there's no way to trace this family by census prior to 1850. Any information you may have would be appreciated.
