Where in California was James Monroe Ford born? My husbands grandfather, Stephen Speedy Ford, was born in Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky (1824). He married my husband's grandmother in Yreka, Ca. in 1879. He was twenty five years older than Pluma Augusta Cornish when they married. We discovered Stephen Ford must have been married before as there is a plot listing a Mrs. Ford on the right side of Stephens gravesite( no marker or first name however). Pluma Ford's gravesite is on the left side of Stephen's grave. Stephen Ford was a Mexican War veteran and received a pension from the government and when he died, Pluma Ford received his pension. This has been a mystery to us since the beginning of our research on my husbands family. Prior to marrying my husbands grandmother, Stephen Ford had property in Lassen County, Ca. in Grasshopper Valley. It is near Susanville, Ca. He was very active in political affairs. He was a great horseman, breeding and raising some of the best racers in that part of the country. I would certainly like to make some connection and learn more about his first family.
