In 1785, there were three FORDs who witnessed my ancestor's, Moses McCarley's, last will and testament in Spartanburg County, SC. They were John FORD, Samuel FORD and Spence FORD. Later, in 1810, David McCarley sold land to James McCarley. The conveyance states that the land was originally granted to Jeptha FORD, but it makes no reference as to how David came into possession of the land. I am interested in ascertaining whether and to what extent the Ford family was related to the McCarley family. Was it coincidence (perhaps a matter of convenience) that three individuals by the name of Ford signed Moses' Will? Could David McCarley have gained ownership of Jephta Ford's land via inheritance? Any thoughts, speculation? Thanks, David
