Having been out of town, I've just come in on the conversation about Fords from places other than the U.S. My major Ford mystery concerns James Wallace Ford, born about 1809. According to census and death records in the U.S., he was born in England, but I have no idea of where in England. He was married in Calton, Barony (now part of Glasgow), Lanarkshire, Scotland, to Rachel McKenzie 22 April 1833 (his occupation was given as Cotton Spinner). Although I have the birth records of all eleven of Rachel's siblings, after this marriage record I cannot find any record of these McKenzies or of James Ford and his family in the Barony/Glasgow area. The Fords came to the U.S. around 1848, and they appear in the 1850 U.S. (PA) census with five children, all born in Scotland (William 18, Archibald 16, James 15, Christiana [Christian/Christina] 10, and Mary 9). (The ages differ by as much as three years over several censuses.) Christina was my gggrandmother. I have material on the extended Ford family in the U.S. from 1850. The original family lived in New Jersey in 1860 but settled in the Philadelphia area. Archibald moved to Missouri and then California, where it is possible that William also settled. If anyone has come across a James Ford born around 1809 in England who might be my ancestor, or if any of these Fords sound like part of your family, I would love to share information.
