Was he descendent of Nathaniel Ford Sr.? According to his grandchildren he was orphaned at about age 12, sent to Georgia to live possibly with family members and to work on a plantation. His grandmother or grandfather were guardians but he dared not go back when he was unhappy in Georgia and ran away. He said he had two siblings who also survived the epidemic which killed his parents.
