    3. Agnes, I appreciate your thoughts in sending this email out, but the purpose of these list servers is to share information pertinent to a topic that the subscribers would like to receive information about. In this case, that topic is Ford family genealogy. I personally ask that you refrain from sending emails of this nature out to the list server. As the bottom of the email states, "please pass this on to other people in your address book". Since I personally am not in your address book and I request not to receive these types of emails. I'm sure that you only had good intentions. May you have a wonderful day! 3. Help needed from my fellow genealogists.... I recently sent the following letter by snail mail to Elizabeth Dye Budai PO Box 4631 Bridgeport, WV 26330-4631 It was an old address from 1997 and my letter was returned because she no longer has a PO box. I've found 2 different older addresses from VGS Newsletter Archives both also in WV (Clarksburg 96 & Bristol in 94 & 95). I have been unable to find her physical street or email address and am hoping that someone out there can help me get in touch with her. Please contact me if you can or just forward the following message to her. Any other feedback is also greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Vicki Ford in Virginia Hello Elizabeth, While I was doing some family research on my Ford family on line I found your name listed in a 1997 issue of The Virginia Genealogical Society Newsletter. It caught my attention because your first and middle name matched the name of my ancestor. An ancestral brick wall you might be able to help me with. I have solid connections back to Thomas Ford and Elizabeth Dye. I believe this Thomas Ford to be the son of the Thomas Ford who married Rebecca Burton but have little proof other than timing and location. Here is what is in the Ford/Burton marriage record...... 26 December1793. Thomas FORD and Rebecca Burton, dau. Thomas Burton. Sur. John Ashworth. Thomas son of John Ford. Married 2 January 1794 by Rev. John Williams. p 199 Ford/Burton could then have produced a child the following December which would have put them within the range of Christian decency of over nine months from the wedding. With the child being a son I would think that given his father's name was Thomas and his maternal grandfather's name was Thomas that the tradition of the time would dictate that his name be Thomas also. Do you know anything about this Thomas Ford/Rebecca Burton marriage and if it ties in with the Dye family? Anything you can tell me to point me in the right direction would be highly appreciated. Thank you very much.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Ford, Burt, Alexander Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/REX.2ACIB/3808 Message Board Post: Can anyone tell me if the Ethna M. Ford, b. April 1879, living with mother, Clara, in Lamoine, Hancock County, Maine on the enumeration dates June 1-9, 1900 and listed as a stenographer is the same Ethna Ford, b. April 1879, living as a boarder with Richard and Mary Burt in Lendlow, Aroostook County, Maine on June 7, 1900? The latter Ethna Ford lists her occupation as school teacher. An Ethna Ford, b. April 9, 1879, in Marlboro, Hancock County, Maine, married my cousin, Ernest C. Alexander on June 10, 1901. I'm sure the one living with her mom Clara is the same Ethna Ford who married Ernest. It would simplify things for me if Ethna M. Ford and Ethna Ford are one and the same person. I would like to know one way or the other.

    3. After gracefully expressing their gratitude for his 'great and unparalleled services,' and confiding him in prayer to the 'Divine Being,' the paper is signed: 'By order of the Committee, SAMUEL HARRIS, Chairman, and REUBEN FORD, Cleric.' General Washington's reply was addressed 'To the General Committee, representing the United Baptist Churches in Virginia.' After thanking them for their congratulations, and expressing his own gratitude to 'Divine Providence' for blessing his public services, he proceeds to write thus: 'If I could have entertained the slightest apprehension that the Constitution framed by the Convention where I had the honor to preside might possibly endanger the religious rights of any ecclesiastical society, certainly I would never have placed my signature to it; and if I could now conceive that the general government might ever be so administered as to render the liberty of conscience insecure, I beg you will be persuaded that no one would be more zealous than myself to establish effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual tyranny and every species of religious persecution. For, you doubtless remember, I have often expressed my sentiments that any man, conducting himself as a good citizen and being accountable to God alone for his religious opinions, ought to be protected in worshiping the Deity according to the dictates of his own conscience. While I recollect with satisfaction, that the religious society of which you are members have been, throughout America, ! uniformly and almost unanimously the firm friends to civil liberty, and the persevering promoters of our glorious revolution, I cannot hesitate to believe that they will be the faithful supporters of a free yet efficient general government. Under this pleasing expectation, I rejoice to assure them that they may rely upon my best wishes and endeavors to advance their prosperity, 'I am, gentlemen, your most obedient servant, GEORGE WASHINGTON.' http://fbc-nc.com/A%20HISTORY%20OF%20THE%20BAPTISTS.htm

    1. Samuel Ford

    3. Interesting fellow this Samuel Ford. Anybody know more?? The one blot on the Kitchel family record is that Grace, daughter of Joseph Kitchel and Rachel Bates, married Samuel Ford. Samuel Ford was the son of outstanding family in Morristown, hosts to George Washington when he spent the winter in Morristown. The son was quite a clever forger and did a good job of disabling the new Republic by creating the Panic of 1793 with his printed money. When he was found out, he skipped to Ireland and married (without benefit of a divorce) and had 3 children. He returned again in the later days of the war and continued his currency deals and again was at the point of being caught. So taking his mother's maiden name Baldwin, he retired to the wilds of Virginia where he married again (without divorce) and became the patriarch of some prominent families of Virginia. Samuel Ford's line is also the line whose descendants include the wife of a president and the mother of the current president of the United States. -2 416 5-1 m 20Jan1757 Hanover NJ Samuel FORD b Abt 1735 Hanover NJ son Samuel FORD and Sarah BALDWIN, notorious counterfeiter 1793; d Lewisburg GreenbrierCo VA, alias Samuel BALDWIN -2 416 5-1-2 m VA ?______ ?______ (bigamous, alias BALDWIN)

    3. Hello again< I just began searching for your Daniel and this is hardly proof of anything but there is someone on ancestry.com with your family. They have Daniel as James Daniel Ford married Agatha Walker. They have her parents as Elijah Walker and Elizabeth Simmons. IF all that is true it may help in the search for his parents. 3. Looking for parents of Daniel Ford who was born about 1790. The 1850 Henry County, GA census is the only census record that I can find of Daniel after censuses began showing names of all family members, places of birth, etc. This census shows him as having been born in Georgia and his wife Agatha as having been born in Virginia in about 1793. Daniel married Agatha Walker, dau. of Elijah and Elizabeth Walker of Laurens County, SC, formerly of Henry County, Virginia, where I believe Agatha must have been born. Daniel and Agatha were married sometime prior to 1810, when their first child James Y. Ford was born in South Carolina. Both Agatha and Daniel are mentioned by name in Elijah and Elizabeth Walker's estate settlement in Laurens County, SC. The papers state that they were living in Georgia at time of settlement, 1819-1821. Daniel and Agatha apparently moved from Laurens County, SC to Oglethorpe County, GA by 1819, where they purchased land on Clouds Creek from Isaiah Hardman. Daniel Ford is listed as head of household on the 1820 and 1830 Oglethorpe County census records. I believe Daniel and Agatha moved with their children from Oglethorpe County, GA to Henry County, GA, sometimes after the marriage of oldest son James Y. Ford in 1836 in Oglethorpe County. They are listed on the 1840 Henry County, GA census. Agatha died about August 1851 in Henry County, GA and Daniel then married a widow Cynthia Morgan Eberhart on 10 Mar 1856 in Henry County. I cannot find Daniel and Cynthia on the 1860 census, anywhere. Daniel died 31 Dec 1868 in Henry County. Laurens County, SC isn't too far from Oglethorpe County, GA. I believe that Daniel and Agatha may have been connected someway to the Hardman Family of Wilkes/Oglethorpe Counties, GA. If anyone on the list is researching this family and can help, please reply. Jimmie [email protected] That's two vees in my address and not a dubya. .

    3. Hi Jason, I'm certain we're cousins for sure. I'm descended from Dorrel Ford, who settled in that area in 1837. You mentioned that your descent is through Sarah Ford, and I'm assuming you're referring to Sarah who was Dorrel's sister. She married first William Arledge in Fairfield County SC. He died in 1821, and she remarried, this time to Frederick Bailey in the same county. They moved to Alabama, then to Mississippi, then to Florida, and finally Sarah is widowed and living back in Choctaw County AL where she lived until moving to live with her daughter in Mississippi where she died in 1863. There were other Sarahs in the family, so perhaps the one I've described isn't yours. Please contact me. 2. Vicki Ford
    3. In 1797 the Hawkins line was surveyed to determine the boundary between Tennessee and the Cherokees. The line ran northwest crossing the Great Iron Mountains south of the Little Pigeon River and crossed the Holston River east of its junction with the Tennessee River. After the line was completed it was discovered that several white families were living south of the line on Indian Lands. We know that Prettyman was in the families removed from the Indian lands because on April 7, 1798 Governor John Sevier issued a : "Passport into Indian land Prettyman Jone, Zachariah Jones, John Hackney, David Styrhete, Joshua parsons, David Oatts, John Oree, Christopher Huzey, Alexander Ford, Joseph Gomry for the purpose of removing their cattle and stock from the Indian lands and to care for their growing grain. Some others living on Indian lands were John, Arch & Robert Cowan; Isham Hale; Ebenezer Jones; Moses Justice; Alexander, Humphrey, & James Montgomery; and Joseph Gomery(Montgom! ery]. Also mentioned on the Indian lands was Annis Joans (Ann Jones] Prettyman's mother. http://www.tcarden.com/tree/ensor/ensorances.html
