Hi list, I just joined this list and am looking for some info on my Ford Line out of Pickering, Ohio, Fairfield Co.. Jasper Newton Ford s/o Newton W. Ford and Elizabeth Ann (Arrendt??). Jasper married Sarah Brown and served in the Civil War in CF 25th Regiment OVI in 2864/65. They had 10 children that I'm aware of. Would like to know more about his ancestors? Any ideas? Thanks Debbie

I would like any information anyone can give me about PHILIP FORD b. 1746 m. 1771 d. 1783. He was married to ELIZABETH FORD. She was b. 1754 d. 1810. Think they were cousins but no proof. They had at least 3 children Philip, James and Richard. I have them living in South Carolina but not sure about that. Barbara
Hey Eddie, Are you sure that cotted means coat? I was thinking 'black cotted raskoll' meant cot as in a cot like a bed. Still don't know what was meant by 'kicked him over the Pallyzados'. I'll have to look that one up. If you don't mind could you share with me whatever information that you have on your John Ford because I'm still searching for one born later and trying to keep others straight. It gets so confusing with so many Johns and Thomas also. Did your John have a son named Thomas Ford who married Rebecca Burton in Jan. 1794? I BELIEVE that this marriage produced a Thomas Jr. in Dec. of 94 who later married Elizabeth Dye. Do you know anything about these people? Thanks, Vicki in VA
In 1785, there were three FORDs who witnessed my ancestor's, Moses McCarley's, last will and testament in Spartanburg County, SC. They were John FORD, Samuel FORD and Spence FORD. Later, in 1810, David McCarley sold land to James McCarley. The conveyance states that the land was originally granted to Jeptha FORD, but it makes no reference as to how David came into possession of the land. I am interested in ascertaining whether and to what extent the Ford family was related to the McCarley family. Was it coincidence (perhaps a matter of convenience) that three individuals by the name of Ford signed Moses' Will? Could David McCarley have gained ownership of Jephta Ford's land via inheritance? Any thoughts, speculation? Thanks, David

Vicki This is quite interesting. It would appear that John Waltham age 24, Randall Revell 21 years and John Ford 25 years or thereabouts gave a sworn deposition that they heard Henry Charelton say that if he had Mr. Cotton outside the church yard he would have kicked his behind for calling him a black coated rascal. Upon the complaint of Mr. Cotton against the siad Charelton and the sworn deposition of the above. It was ordered that the said Charelton shall for the said offense be put into stocks and set in them for three consecuvtive Sundays in the time of Devine Service and then ask for Mr. Cottons forgiveness. My John Ford was born a little later than this, but in the same area, so this is quite interesting to me Thanks for sharing. Is this the same John Ford from Accomack County (that John would have been around 88 yrs. old in 1700)? Anyone have information on this branch? Thanks, Vicki in Virginia
You will find land disputes in many southern and mid wastern states ,also. This is why when your relative said he was born in one state about 1700- early 1800's and you can't find them it is usually to check early maps of surrounding states. At one time parts of western Tenn. and all way over to Nashville were sometime called Misssissippi Terrority and couple of south centa Tenn. counties were part of Alabama Territory and parts of western Tenn. were said to belong to North Carolina. In some instances when say Tenn. became a state of it's own, wars almost started among surrounding states and even then some residents refused to agree with states choice.l _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? I did find Jacob Ford and his family in the "History of Bedford County, Somerset and Fulton County". You can buy this book from the Fulton County Historical Society for about half the price that other societies want. It is a useful book. It states that he was an early settler and was born in Germany. I guess this will require research. I am currently working on the Feight family. I have to go to Baton Rouge in about a month and will check their genealogy library when I go. If I come across anything useful I will let you know.
