RE: Robert & Charles Ford My main computer is down right now but I have a little information. I searched and found a file (parts from Donald Ford, I believe) - that is a descendent list from Austin Ford and includes Robert Newton Ford. If you would like this I could send it in another post as it is long (about six pages in Word) and I must remove the living generation. As I don't have access to my genealogy information the descendent list does not include any source material but could be a jumping off place to search. I have an ancestor who is related to the Ford brothers and I have found a little information on the brothers - some by Googling their names and there are also several paperback books mentioning them. I did not find specific genealogy sites but these might be interesting: http://www.consensus.net/ford_brothers.html Picture of Bob Ford http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/reference/jesse_james About half way down the page is the short shooting reference http://www.islandnet.com/~the-gang/bio.htm I would normally send the following information as an attachment but don't think I can on Rootsweb. Sorry it's so long. Some may duplicates of above sites. I have both Ford and Munkers/Monkers ancestors. My ancestor Ann Ford who is related to the Ford brothers and I have found a little information on the brothers - some by googling their names and there are also several paperback books mentioning them. Austin & Jane Ford had 10 children and 65 grandchildren that I know of. Austin was killed in Clarke Co., MO in July 1841. His oldest son , James Thomas Ford had 11 children and two of them were Robert Newton Ford & Charles Wilson Ford, who shot Jesse James. If interested in more info contact me directly. I have over 90 pictures of gravestone of descdentants of Austin Ford, but still looking for his parents, etc. ************************************* From my (Deena Mault) records as posted by Jim Marable (if you continue down in time to individuals born in the 1920's generation there are errors in his upload - marriage and death dates either transposed or in error). Ed O'Kelly shot and killed Robert Ford 8 June 1892 with a shotgun in a saloon Ford owned in Creede, Colorado. Ford was first buried in Colorado, but was later removed to the family plot in Richmond, MO." Another Site: http://www.rosecity.net/trains/james_gang_members.html James "Windy Jim" Robert Cummins/Cummings was involved in the train robberies at Winston and Blue Cut, Missouri. He lived near Kearney and was known as a horse thief. "Windy Jim" rode with Quantrill, most often assigned to Quantrill's lieutenant, "Bloody" Bill Anderson. Jim may have been in on the plot to kill Jesse James, since his sister, Artella Cummins, married Robert Ford, who actually did kill Jesse James. Their son, Albert Ford, was his nephew. "Windy Jim" died at the Confederate Soldier's Home at Higginsville, Missouri in 1928 or 1929. The Soldier's Home has been razed, but the cemetery is still in existence. Robert Newton Ford shot and killed Jesse James in the back while Jesse was hanging a picture on April 3, 1882 in Jesse's home at St. Joseph, Missouri. Trying to cash in on the notoriety of being the person who killed Jesse James, Ford bought a saloon in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Ed O'Kelly shot and killed Robert Ford on June 8, 1892 with a shotgun in a saloon Ford owned in Creede, Colorado. Ford was first buried in Colorado, but was later removed to the family plot in Richmond, Missouri. Charlie Ford was an accomplice to the murder of Jesse James. He committed suicide in November of 1882.

Do any of you know who the parents and any children of these Ford men were? [Taken from a Jesse James site.] During the winter of 1882, Jesse tried to buy a small farm in Nebraska. But in April, he was short of cash. All of his earlier gang members were either dead or in prison, but Jesse recruited Bob and Charlie Ford to help him rob the Platte City bank. The Ford brothers posed as cousins of Jesse James, but actually were not related to Jesse at all. Bob Ford put and end to the James Legend with a single bullet to the back of the head on April 3, 1882. The Ford brothers attempted to collect the reward. Instead, they were charged with murder. They were sentenced to hang, but were pardoned by Governor Tom Crittenden. Two years later Charles Ford committed suicide and Bob Ford, the "dirty little coward who shot Mr. Howard, and laid poor Jesse in his grave," was himself killed in a bar room brawl in Creede, Colorado, in 1892.
