No that is not the one. My James and Jane Ford were married in 1850. Jane's maiden name was Young. I don't know if she remarried after James died . I haven't been able to find her after the 1880 census for Dade co. Georgia. I think James died in Calhoun Co, Alabama and then his wife moved to Dade County, Georgia, where their son was living. I just found out the file I'm looking for widow's pension file for James M. Ford Application # 452,346 filed in Georgia is for the widow of James M. Ford, Union soldier from Ind. I hope you will still check on it for me while you are there The death date is the same as the one in Calhoun, Alabama. October 24th, 1878 and the names match. The one in Alabama says Jane Ford and the one in Georgia is for Argin J. Ford. I know Jane's first name started with an A. I somehow think I'm still tracking the same people. I think my James M. Ford may have swished sides. The children on the pension file will be the real clue. Jane/Agin J. should have 2 or 3 children listed with her. Son Jesse and son Madison/ Mattison F. Ford. Thank You On 6/29/06, D Rennow <[email protected]> wrote: > > I recently called the Atlanta Branch of the National Archives on a > similar request and was told that they do not have any of those records. > The State Archives does have a LOT of Civil War stuff, especially for > Georgia veterans. I recently called the Atlanta Branch of the National Archives on a similar request and was told that they do not have any of those records. The State Archives does have a LOT of Civil War stuff, especially for Georgia veterans. Call them to see if they have something you need. If they do, let me know. I can copy it the next time I am down there. National Archives, Atlanta 770-968-2100 Georgia Archives 678-364-3700 The State Archives also has a bunch of Dade County GA records. Did James Madison Ford die in Dade County? Dade County had a very cool newspaper and the records are on microfiche. They had strange articles from all over the world. When I say strange, I mean it. Reading it is like reading the National Enquirer today. But they did very detail obituaries, so if he died there and you haven't already gotten it, you can request a look up.
