    1. Re: [FORBES] My FORBES ancestors
    2. If anyone's posted my line of Forbes(s)es, I missed it. So here goes: The earliest Forbes in my records is Joseph Forbes, m. Elizabeth McCorkle. They were in the Philadelphia, PA area in the mid 1700's. They had at least three children, John, Joseph Jr., and Ann. By 1780 (and probably much earlier), the family had settled in York Co., SC. John married Rebecca Barron (daughter of Archibald Barron) in York Co. around 1780. They had a dozen children: Elizabeth, Margaret, Rebecca, Sarah, Anne, Rachael, John, Archibald Barron, Prudence, Thomas, Tabitha, and Arthur. Archibald Barron Forbess (b. 1795) m. Margaret Catherine Hutchinson in about 1817. They produced 10 children: John Calvin, Margaret, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel H., Rhoda, Archibald Barney, Mary Isabella, Rebecca, William Flannigan, and James Perry. Sometime after about 1830, Archibald and Margaret packed up the kids and moved to Tennessee, along with some other families from York Co. Archibald and his family lived for a while in Tipton Co., Tennessee (he and Margaret both died in DeSoto Co., Mississippi in the early 1850's). Thomas Jefferson Forbess (b. 1821) m. M. Catherine Goforth. They also had 10 children, including Thomas Jefferson, Jr., from whose line my husband descends.
