Robert and William inherited the large estates of John and Thomas Forbes who may have been their uncles, and who may have been in the USA prior to 1785. The large inheritance came from the sale of over 1,000,000 acres of Florida in 1818, known geographically as The Forbes Purchase. This land was basically south and west of Quincy. The ultimate disposal of these estates included a large sum to my grandfather in 1915. Robert and William Forbes died childless and the estates were first inherited by their sisters. One, possibly Robert, was a judge. A number of descendants of Christina and Donald Bruce also went to Florida during the 1849 to 1881 period. Three went direct from Scotland; another three went from New Zealand. Looking forward to making contact, regards to all, Dave Collins dave.clnz@xtra.co.nz ph (09) 298 6614
