My line: Alexander FORBES b. 19 Oct 1784, and bapt. 9 Nov 1784 in the Dutch Reformed Church of German Flatts. His parents are given as John Vorbos and Margreth. The sponsors were Georg Nelles and Margreth Cunnigham. The NELLES/NELLIS family genealogy book lists Alexander's parents as James FORBES and Margretha NELLES, and James' parents as John FORBES and Margreth. An interesting puzzle which I haven't sorted out to my satisfaction yet. If anyone knows something about this particular family please contact me. Alexander FORBES married abt. 1804 Elizabeth CASLER (poss. KESSLER) b. abt 1786. They supposedly had 7 children, but only 5 were listed in the book "Mohawk Valley CASLERS and Allied Families". They are: Catharina b. 14 Jun 1805 Archibaldus b. 17 Jun 1809 Francis b. 1811 (my ancestor) Nancy Elizabeth L. b. 2 May 1816, d. 21 Mar 1905 at Moravia, NY Francis FORBES b. 1811 married Elizabeth HELMER b. 2 Dec 1813 (the daughter of Leonard HELMER b. 16 Sep 1791 and Catharine HARTER b. 15 May 1792) in the German Flatts Church on 7 Nov 1830. There children are: 1. Henry (later found as William in census records) b. 30 Jul 1831 in Herkimer Co., NY 2. Alexander b. 28 May 1834 in Herkimer Co., NY m. Minerva Putman of Alexandria, Jeff., NY 3. Mary Elisabeth b. 6 Apr 1836 4. Margaret b. abt 1838 5. John (my ancestor) b. 18 Jun 1839 in Evans Mills, Jeff., NY 6. Lucinda b. abt 1841 7. Almira b. abt 1852 These children were found on the 1850 and 1860 census records of Pitcain Township in St. Lawrence Co., NY just across the border from Antwerp, Jefferson Co., NY. Later Francis, his wife Betsey and several of their children are found in the New York State 1865 census in Plessis, Jefferson, NY. Plessis is part of Alexandria, Jeff., NY. John FORBES m. 1st) Lucy PUTNAM (the sister of Minerva Putnam who married Alexander FORBES) on 4 Jul 1865. Lucy died in 1869 John m. 2nd). Mary EAGAN (no date found as yet) They had two children: 1.
