Forbes The funeral of Miss Emma S. Forbes, one of the oldest members of the First Congregational church, was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Whitney funeral home, No. 921 Main street. The Rev. Frank W. Gray, pastor of the Burnside Methodist church, and the Rev. Truman H. Woodward, pastor of the First Congregational church, conducted the services. The bearers were William P. Stanley, Henry Olmsted, George L. Forbes and Clarence J. Cannon. Mrs. J. E. Freeman sang during the service. The interment was in the Center cemetery. Miss Forbes lived in the same house in which she was born during the greater part of her life, the Timothy Forbes homestead on Forbes street. According to a local tradition, Revolutionary war silver was stored in the cellar of this house to pay the soldiers of Rochambeau. Miss Forbes' father, Giles Forbes, lived there after the death of his grandfather. The house is directly east of the residence of James S. Forbes.
