I am looking for the names of the children of Nathaniel and Ruth Lyman) Forbes from Hartford, CT. They were married about 1791 in West Hartford, CT. I was told that my husband's ggg grandfather was a son of Nathaniel Forbes. His name is Isaiah Forbes, born March 24, 1810. The following is his obit from July 1885 in Missouri. Obituary: Death of Dr. Forbes Dr. Isaiah Forbes, who has been styled the father of dental surgery in St. Louis, died yesterday morning at the advanced age of 75 years. He had only been ill a week, and succumbed to general debility consequent on old age. He was born in Albany, New York and after a brief experience in the mercantile business in New York City, which was closed by the great fire of 1835, he studied dentistry. A year later he began practicing and in 1837 removed to St. Louis. Having interested himself in the public schools of the East, Dr. Forbes was elected to the School Board shortly after his arrival here, and served with honor and distinction for fifteen years, filling the President's chair for two terms and for the remainder of his time holding office of Chairman of the Teacher's Committee. Under the administration of Mayor Mullanphy, he served on the Board of Alderman and exercised personal supervision over the City Hospital. The deceased also served as a Director of the Bank of Missouri for four years, and was honored by election to the positions of President of American Dental Association and Vice President of the Southern Dental Association. In 1848 Dr. Forbes married Miss Cornelia Staats, who, with a family of five children, survives him. The funeral will be conducted under the Auspices of the Odd Fellows. I'd like to find out more about Isaiah's siblings - at this time I don't have any names. On the 1860 Federal Census Index for St. Louis, Ward 6 it shows an Arithusa L. Forbes, age 40, living with them. Kathy in Michigan
