I have Forbes ancestors from about that time and place in NC, but I'm not sure if roots are the same because (unsubstantiated) legend has it these Forbes came straight to VA from Scotland in 1600's, then moved south to NC to claim a land grant a little later. My earliest confirmed ancestor is John Forbes from Bath (a little south of Camden County), who shows up on some deeds there in 1748-49...he was later a captain for the patriots in the Revolutionary War, and we think was related somehow to Colonel Arthur Forbes from the same era and general locale. They produced a long line of Forbes with roots in eastern NC; some have spread far & wide and others have stayed fairly close by. Would like to be able to trace them back to VA in 1600's and from thence back to the Scottish homeland. Bob Forbes, Waxhaw, NC
