The marriage papers state he was 25 years of age, a policeman in Lancaster, and his father was James, a farmer, deceased. On the 1881 census (assumed 30 Apr 1881) he was stated as 26 years of age and he was born in Scotland. We searched the GRO-S for a Thomas Forbes, s/o James, born between 17 Oct 1854 and 30 Apr 1855. Only one was found, the s/o James Forbes of Logie Buchan and Jane Minty of Fyvie. There are several of Thomas' siblings found for this couple: William (1849), Elspet (1851), James (1853), George (1857), Anne (1859), Jane (1861), Alexander (1863), and Charles (1865). On the 1881 census, part of the family was living in Aberdeen and consisted of the mother, Jane (now stated born in Ellon), and sons George, Alexander, and Charles (all born in Logie Buchan). The ages are consistent with the above family. Two missing pieces of information help confirm this is the Forbes family of my Thomas Forbes: the father is gone and there is no Thomas in the family group.
