Does anyone out there happen to have FTM cd #356? I'm looking for someone who might lookup Passenger & Immigration of Germans to America 1875-1888 for my g-grandmother Pauline Weidman. Thanks for any help - Linda in Richmond
I have Forbes ancestors from about that time and place in NC, but I'm not sure if roots are the same because (unsubstantiated) legend has it these Forbes came straight to VA from Scotland in 1600's, then moved south to NC to claim a land grant a little later. My earliest confirmed ancestor is John Forbes from Bath (a little south of Camden County), who shows up on some deeds there in 1748-49...he was later a captain for the patriots in the Revolutionary War, and we think was related somehow to Colonel Arthur Forbes from the same era and general locale. They produced a long line of Forbes with roots in eastern NC; some have spread far & wide and others have stayed fairly close by. Would like to be able to trace them back to VA in 1600's and from thence back to the Scottish homeland. Bob Forbes, Waxhaw, NC
I am searching for M.W. Forbes b. 1812 Canada. He married Sophia.... b. 1814 MA. Their first two children Anna and Mathias were born in NY and Francis, William, and Henrietta were b. Oh. They are found in the 1850 Cleveland, OH census. Leah Neuberger <neuberg@inlandnet.com>
I would like to compare notes with anyone else out there researching Webbs from NY, circa late 1700's, or from Wisconsin, circa 1847 on. I only have direct line information, and hope to connect with a distant cousin. I do not yet know where they originated from. John Forbes, born in 1790's, living in Pompey, Onodaga, NY. Married Lydia Sheridan Children, all b NY: George b 4/1818, Jacob 1/1820, John 10/1821, Thomas 4/1824, Mary ~1829, Merrick 8/1838. John died in NY 1844; Lydia moved entire family to WI around 1847; John's brother, Nicholas (Lydia's brother-in-law) came along. Settled in Sheboygan and Winnebago Counties. I have information on Thomas' and Alexander's family. Sincerely, Debbie Mills ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Our Forbes came from Kilglass, Sligo County, Ireland in the 1860s. The parents were Patt and Mary Conway Forbes. Several brothers emigrated and worked for the MKT railroad in Denison, Texas and later in Parsons, Ks. Why were the Mac Ferbis' in Ireland. Some source said they were the bards. What is a good source for Irish info? Interesting to read everyone's comments.

Hi All - this is in response to Mary Ann in Mililani, Hi I have it going like this - Isaac Franklin Forbes was born January 26, 1832 in Louisville, Kentucky and died August 17, 1907 in Lick Creek Township, Davis County, Iowa. He married Mary L. Reynolds November 17, 1853 in Adair County, Missouri. The 1870 Census for Liberty Township, Schuler County, Missouri shows Isaac as being 38 years old. His wife Mary is 39. They have the following children at that time: Matilda age 16, Richard age 14, Isaac F. age 12, Martha age 11, Mary E. age 10, Emily J. age 7, Melissa C. age 5, Abraham Age 2. Isaac is shown as being from Kentucky and Mary from Indiana. All the children are shown as being born in Missouri. From the Bloomfield Democrat 8/29/1907 (Bloomfield, Iowa) Dick Forbes and family of Ottumwa were called to Pleasant Ridge by the death of his father Isaac Forbes who died Saturday Morning. He was laid to rest in the Dunville cemetery Sunday August 18th to wait the resurrection morn. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. I ordered the death certificate for Isaac. The informant was evidently not a person who know Isaac very well. The parents were both listed as unknown he was a widower. attending physician was a J.W. Pucker and cause of death was elephantiasis brung the left leg fracture of the hip. Born in Kentucky and not a veteran of any war. His occupation was that of a farmer. Isaac Franklin Forbes II was born about 1858 I don't know who he married but they had the following children. Francis, Dora, Stella Jane, Nettie, Rafe. Martha Francis Forbes was born Jan 16, 1859 in Blythedale, Missouri and died Dec 22, 1899 in Blythedale, MO. She married Edward J. Bridwell. he was born 1854 and died 1909 in Beaver, Oklahoma. They had the following children. Sarah Ann, Mary Elizabeth, Bertha Frances, Clara Lauretta, Orga C.Millica Jane, Charles Walter, James William, Flora Bessie, John Jasper, Ada, Dona Agnes, Florence, and an unknown male child. Richard Forbes was born May 10, 1856 in Missouri and died March 9, 1908 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He married Ellen Mary Smyth Feb. 17, 1875 in Greentop, Mo. She was born July 4, 1854 in Philadelphia, PA. They had the following children. Eliza Ellen, Dora, William Franklin, Minnie Myrtle, Richard J., Isaac Alfred, Otto, Louis Otto, Robert, and Julia Alma. Mary Ellen was born June 21, 1860 in Greentop, Missouri and died April 10, 1928 in Ottumwa, Iowa She married John Zachariah Wilcher December 26, 1875 in Schuyler County Mo. He was born March 27, 1847 near Macon, Mo and died March 14, 1941 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Are you saying that Hiram Forbes is the Father of Isaac Franklin Forbes (1st)? Where did you find this information so that I may be able to get more info. Your help will be appreciated.

Am searching for parents and siblings of William Forbes b. l803 in NJ. Then went to Clermont,OH and finally ended in IN. Also looking for info on Gen. John Forbes d. l759 in PA. Fought at Ft. Duquesne. He could be William's ggrandfather. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Linda in Richmond
Hello Everyone, Since we are trying to make this list a little less inactive, I thought I'd throw out my Forbes too... Elizabeth FORBES b. 1801 - 1803? I believe in Camden County, NC She married Evan Leary in Camden County and had 7 (8?) children. I had a clue that she *might* be the daughter of Isaac Forbes, Jr. and his wife, them having a daughter Elizabeth and the dates being in the correct time range. I was wondering if anyone might be researching this line and/or have any related information. Thanks in advance for any help! -V
Hi Forbes listers, So far the earliest records I have for my FORBES family is in Montgomery and Herkimer County, New York. My gggggrandfather Alexander FORBES (VORBOS in the German Flatts Dutch Church records) b. 19 Oct 1784. The problem I'm having exists with his parents. The record indicates his parents were John VORBOS and Margreth, with sponsors Georg Nelles and Margreth Cunnigham. Other records indicate that his parents should be "James" FORBUS [or Vorbos I would guess]. James FORBUS married Margretha NELLES. Georg Nelles as a sponsor would support the possibility of these individuals being Alexander's parents. There is no connection so far that I can determine for the John and Margreth FORBES / VORBOS, especially with Georg Nelles as a sponsor. Anyway, Alexander FORBES m. Elizabeth CASLER abt 1804. They had 7 children according to the book "Mohawk Valley CASLERS and Allied families". However, there were only 5 listed. They are: Catharina b. 14 Jun 1805 RC Herkimer Archibaldus b. 17 jun 1809 RC Herkimer Francis b. abt 1811 Nancy Elizabeth L. b. 2 May 1816, d. 21 Mar 1905 at Moravia, NY My ancestor is Francis FORBES. He married Elisabeth HELMER b. 2 Dec 1813 [RC Herkimer], the dau of Leonard HELMER and Catherine HARTER. There children are: Henry [aka William] b. 30 Jul 1831 RC Herkimer, probably Fairfield, Herk., NY Alexander b. 28 May 1834 RC Herkimer, probably Fairfield, Herk., NY Mary Elisabeth b. 6 Apr 1836 RC Herkimer, probably Fairfield, Herk., NY Margaret abt 1838 John b. 18 Jun 1839 in Evans Mills, Jefferson, NY Lucinda b. abt 1841 Mahala b. abt 1843 Catherine b. abt 1844 James b. 31 Aug 1847 in Antwerp, Jeff., NY Robert b. abt Dec. 1849 Almira b. abt 1852 John was my ancestor. He married first Lucy PUTMAN of Alexandria, Jeff., NY on 4 Jul 1865 (this is in the 1865 New York state census for Alexandria, Jefferson Co., NY.) She d. abt 1869. John married 2nd Mary EAGEN before 1872 and they migrated to Elyria, Lorain, OH. They had two children: Lottie FORBES b. abt 1873 in Ohio; m. Henry A. Dykeman Alexander FORBES b. 10 Sep 1874 in Grafton, Lorain, OH m. Leona E. Mynderse I'd sure like to hear from another member of this family and share information with them. I've several FORBES families here and on other surname lists, but have only rarely recognised one of these family members. I hope someone here can share some insight, especially on my Alexander FORBES b. in 1784. Thanks, Carol in Calif
My husband's Forbes was Ellen or Eleanor Forbes, b. ca. 1793 in Scotland, d. ca. 1879 in Jefferson County, OH, m. Daniel Smith who was b. ca. 1793 in Scotland, d. after Sep. 1855 in Steubenville, OH. That's all we know. Does anyone recognize these people? Nan Eckfeld (for husband, Jack) eckfeld@kenton.com
Dear List While I'm sure glad this isn't a list of one. Many people have checked in but no leads yet. On Tom Madden's suggestion, I'm including a bit more about my FORBES in this mailing. The farthest I've been able to get back in this line is a marriage between an Alexander Forbes and Christian Brown in 1753 in Flisk, Fife, Scotland. The banns were also read in Abdie, Fife, Scotland. They had nine children between 1764 and 1769 in that parish. James, my 3x great grandpa was born in in 1765. He married Margaret Page in 1792 in Flisk.. They had 8 children between 1793 and approx. 1804 in Flisk and Auchtermuchty, Fife Scotland. My 2x great grandma, Jean married Thomas Taylor and emmigrated to Ontario in 1828. Her Brother ,Alexander ,moved with his wife and family that same year to Baltimore Maryland. We have lost touch with that branch. I do know that one of Alexanders daughters married a McCandlish in Baltimore.Hope someone sees a connection Helen in Ontario
