>Has anyone gotten back any further than the Daniel Forbes that came to >America in the 1620's? Thats where I seem to be stuck. > Dear Diane, I have. Col. John Forbes was born in Aberdeen and died in 1660 at Plymouth MA. He was married to Constant Mitchell. His father was Rev John Forbes of Aberdeen Scotland who was part of the Forbes line that is listed in Burke's Peerage. John Brandt
Dear Laraine Thanks for your family information. My "earliest" for sure find is Alexander FORBES who married Christian Brown in Flisk in 1753. HE had a son, Alexander, chr. at Flisk on 20 Dec. 1764. I wonder if that could be your man who married in 1797 in Anstruther Easter? Do you have any more info your Alexander? Helen in Ontario
The earliest Alexander I have is Lord Alexander Forbes, born ca 1380 at Forbes, Aberdeen Scotland. He was the son of Sir John "the Black Lip" Forbes and Elizabeth Margaret Kennedy. Alexander married Dame Elspet Douglas, daughter of George Douglas, Earl of Angus. John Brandt
Dear List Does anyone own "House of Forbes" by Tayler and could do a look-up for me? My Forbes appear to be in Fife, Scotland, from the early 1700's on. I can't make the connection to earlier generations-most of whom appear to be in the Aberdeen area or west in the interior. Could you look to see if there's a mention of the Fife Forbes? I don't want to buy the book only to find it's all about " the other"Forbes or even the Forbes in the USA!! Hope someone can help Helen in Ontario ----- Original Message ----- From: <Rebelkaye@aol.com> To: <FORBES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2000 6:47 PM Subject: Re: [FORBES] FORBES Ancestry( Printed history) > Forbes > > The Clan Forbes. hi john, i suspect we have someone on the list who doesn't realize most of this kind of information is not valid ass they don't think about the implications, ergo do not ask themselves the question you asked......in lieu of the recent posts from 'duckbutta' there is even the possiblility this 'original' forbes clan post is an alias...........folks, never send your gedcoms in their entirety to anyone that can't justify a link with your hard work Ed john brandt wrote: > > >There is supposed to be a published Forbes Genealogy of the original > >family. Hello, For those of you who are reading this letter I would like to say that well "Tonights the Night!" If you have or will send in A meaning Any Gedcom file that has a practicle amount of individuals in it then you will be the very lucky ones! It will provide you with any easy to use database that will provide you with the same power it has given me and that is to help people! I love looking up things fo people it is only that I don't work for free and when i say that i mean I am not asking for money i ask for a contribute like a gedcom to where i can add it to my database and i will not have to try to retype what you send threw e-mail this way it is already typed no work at all which leaves me with more time to help and help and continue helping all i can to researchers like those who have been most fortunate enough to recieve this letter you may have thought that this gedcom was never going to come and that this moment was all just a lie and that I would take advantage of you people but like I have said before, Even though nobody ever believed me, "I am not like that I do not lie and I would never do anything to hurt anyone that has not already hurt me! But lets get back to the point researching my tree all the way down to the deepest roots which is covered up with so much dirt requires help from people like you to help dig little by little some of that dirt away.So like I saidbefore congradulations on you taking that oppertunity of contributing and I hope you will find my database useful to you when it come at eight o' clock eastern time tonight.

I've never heard about a printed Forbes genealogy, other than some Scottish books. What do you know?

I just wanted to tell you that you have said in words what I have thought ever since I started researching my family hstory. I have been totally confused by the lack of shareing of genealogical information by many people who actually have the audacity to state that they have knowledge but will keep it secret. My theory is that such individuals suffer from feelings of inferiority and their secretivness gives them a sense of power. I believe they enjoy their smugg rightessness however misplaced that may be and so , their time is not worth my time....or yours! I have been trying for almost ten years to validate or at least find some kind of information leading me to find the parents of my ggggrandfather; Seth Brush Downs, born , I believe in North Castle, Westchester County, N.Y. in 1816. He married in Greenwich, Ct. in 1835 to Amy Scofield. Seth died in Greenwich. My theory is that his parents were Silas Smth Downs of North Castle and Lucy Ann Brush of Stanwich, Ct. Although this contradicts his deathcertificate which gives hs parents ( in almost illegible scrawl ) as Wm. and Amy, I have never found anything anywhere to back that up and feel that whoever filled out that death certificate asked someone presen
The only printed matter I have is the Forbes lines which are in Burke's Peerage. John >I've never heard about a printed Forbes genealogy, other than some Scottish >books. What do you know? > >
There is supposed to be a published Forbes Genealogy of the original family. Have these data ever been converted to a genealogical application so a GEDCOM could be generated. We might be able to make connections to the "original" Forbes clan in this way. -- Please use this address until further notice mailto:fhheld@netzero.net ____________NetZero Free Internet Access and Email_________ Download Now http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html Request a CDROM 1-800-333-3633 ___________________________________________________________
