Marlborough, NH or Oakham, MA(?) abt 1828.      Father was probably Benjamon Forbes who moved from MA to Marl., NH abt 1829. His mother was probably Huldah PROUTY, his 2nd m. 31 Jan 1821. They were supposed to have had 4 ch: Huldah, Lucinda, John and Waldo. This info on Benjamin came from "History of Marlborough, NH" by Charles Bemis in response to a posting  I made to MAWORCES Mailing List.     Waldo m. bef 1852 to Abbie (or Ann) McNEILL (or MacNeil)  b. Oakham, MA. They had 4 daughters: Maria b. abt 1852, Emma b. abt 1854, Ella b. abt 1857 and Hattie S. b. 13 Mar 1862 at Clinton, MA. Hattie m. Ludwig V. B. MOONEY 17 June 1886 and was lifelong resident of Leominster, MA.    1920 Clinton MA Census shows NH as b. place for both Waldo and Abbie, however Hattie's m. and dau. b. vital records both list Clinton as Hattie's b. place. I am looking for connections to any Forbes family living in Cayuga Co., NY around 1816. I have Jonathan H. Forbes b. 1816 in Cayuga Co. who moved at some point to Allegany county. He married a Phebe Dikes b. 1819 in Steuben county. I know that a Luke Forbes moved from Cayuga county to Steuben county sometime between 1830 and 1840. At this point I do not know if Jonathan is allied with him or if he moved on his own. Sue

I have two possible theories on the ancestors of Clement Forbes. John Forbes, born about 1665, in either Scotland or NC. Benjamin Forbes, born about 1695. Arthur Forbes, born about 1725 in Pitt County, NC. Clement Forbes, b about 1755 in Pitt County, NC. John Forbes b in Pitt County, NC., later lived in Edgecomb and Wilson Counties, NC. or James Forbes, (or Forbush) b 1657 in Scotland, d 1727 in NC. He m Alice ?? and together they had five sons and two daughters, names not proven. Benjamin Forbes, b about 1695. Arthur Forbes, b about 1725 in Pitt County, NC. Two of his children were: Clement Forbes, b about 1755 in Pitt County, NC. John Forbes b in Pitt County, NC, later lived in Edgecomb and Wilson Counties, NC. If the second version is correct, then John could be the son of James. The question is: are these your John and James? The second question is: Is Clement Forbes one of your ancestors? Thanks, Roger, for the info on James Forbes' son John Forbes. It appears that this John Forbes is not the same as my 4-gr-grandfather John Forbes, Deputy Surveyor-General of the Colony of NC, who is believed to have married Ann Stafford (1712-1793) and produced my 3-gr-grandfather Arthur Forbes (~1745-1823), Rev. War Patriot, among several other sons. After the death of her first husband John Forbes ~1750, Ann Stafford Forbes would later marry John Shannon and then outlive him as well; she lived her final days w/ her son Arthur. I am stuck on my lineage with presumed 4-gr-grandfather John Forbes, who appears by all evidence to be different than your John Forbes son of James Forbes, although it appears that they were both living in eastern NC during the same time in the early 1700's. If this John Forbes rings a bell with anyone who can provide further info, please respond. I am searching for information about my Father's parents. His Mother died when he was 8 years old, his Father may have died too? The never married, and had 2 sons and 4 daughters. I do have all their names, but no addresses. The all lived in Dundee once. My Mother and myself immigrated to Canada from Dundee when I was 7 years old. My Father went into the British 8th Army. After the war we all settled in Dundee for a few years. They adopted my brother. When I was 14 years old, we came back to Canada. My parents are deceased now. I have no information of my Dad's relatives. My Grandmother's name Isabella Grant Dick, who lived at 7 Crescent Street, Dundee. She was a Jute Winder. Born 1874? Died 1917? My Grandfather, Stewart Forbes, he was a sailor. He had 1 brother Eddy Forbes, who had 6 children and moved to Canada. Born 1872? Died? He was from Aberdeen. I would appreciate any information. My ggrandmother Martha Ann Forbes was born 22 Mar 1837 in Kentucky. Her father William Charles Forbes was 1798 married Lydia Garland born 24 May 1803. I have a copy of picture of Avis Forbes born 1906 & Marian Forbes born 1903. These are the daughters of Percy Forbes & Rhoda Eunice Carr. The picture was taken in Potsdam. Marian married Chester Rhinesmith in 1939 and had at least 2 daughters: Janice & Ruth Rhinesmith. Avis married Robert R. Foster in 1930 and had at least these 3 children: Rhoda Jane, Nancy Lorraine & William Forbes Foster. I would like to get in touch with any of these families to exchange information or photos.
