Jacques Fontaine was a "merchand de bois" or "wood merchant" in the city or Orléans, France. Bienvenu was a "nom de guerre" or a war nickname given to his son Pierre during the King William Wars in New France. Pierre was stationed in the fort Verchères, near Montréal. However, after searching for many years, we have not found any information on his parents Jacques Fontaine and Claude Girou/Giron. Several attemps have been made by those who do speak french (I am not one). The records appear to be lost after the results of two world wars and countless other mishaps of three centuries. If you do find anything, I would surely like to know. As this is my direct ancestor and Jacques is as far back as we can reach.
