Unfortunately, I do not have the street number on Elm Street. Making an assumption from a census that Joseph was the father is VERY dangerous. You see, most Catholic French-Canadian males had the first name of Joseph. Just as most Catholic French-Canadian females had the first name of Marie. Many did not use this name, but the name that followed for everyday use. The custom of naming Joseph and Marie is from the parents of Jesus Christ. So you see, Joseph could even BE Antoine, but unlikely since he was most likely in Manchester, NH at the time of daughter Alice's birth. Also realize that Antoine's parents may not have moved to Biddeford, ME. In 1890, he was approximately 34 years old and fully capable of living on his own. His parents may have stayed in Canada. Besides, in 1900 he was on Elm Street in Manchester, NH (did I say Biddeford, ME?). So you need to check the 1890 NH census, not the ME census. Tony Fontaine www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/5233/ ----- Original Message ----- From: jkerttula Tony, I discovered in the 1890 census of Maine, a Joseph Fontaine that lived on 107 Elm Street in Biddeford, Maine. Your recent email to me said that Antoine was living on Elm Street in Biddeford in 1900. Did your research happen to mention the # on Elm Street? I was wonder if perhaps Joseph Fontaine was Antoine's father. Let me know what you think. Judith
