    3. Can someone help me straighten out some of the Etienne Fontaines? I was following the line of Etienne Fontaines when I came upon two Etienne Fontaines who are married to the same woman. Ancestry.com has Etienne Fontaine, son of Marie Conile and Etienne Fontaine married to Marie Marthe Dagneau as well as Madeleine Fournier and Anne Marie Mineaux. Ancestry.com also has Etienne Fontaine, son of Etienne Fontaine and Marie Madeleine Fournier married to Marie Marthe Dagneau. Can anyone tell me which Etienne Fontaine was married to Marie Marthe Dagneau and did they have a son, Etienne? Maybe this Etienne had more than one wife, too. I can't believe how confusing this all is!! Judith : )

    3. O.K. I'll give you what I have: My Father, WILFRID RALPH FOUNTAIN, born 7 March 1899, did not want me to dig into his family (I think he ran away from home to seek his fortune at an early age). However, over the years, each time he let something slip, I would write it in my "DAD" book. From these notes I got: He was born in or very near the city of Quebec. When he was a young child he and his mother moved to Upstate New York to live with his uncle and Aunt. His mother worked in a silk mill. His father died in 1898. His mother in 1918 (approx). He also mentioned names of several cousins with whom he lived. Here is what I have found since my father's death. These relatives lived in or near the town of Whitehall, New York. The Delaware and Hudson Railway runs through this town (Dad said his uncle Charlie and others of the family worked for this company). Going back a little, now, to his grandmother, Emma: JOSEPHINE EMMA BERTHIAUME, born 23 April 1859 in St-Joseph, Quebec; died at Whitehall on 20 May 1929, buried in Elbow Cenetery, Whitehall, N.Y. She married twice: 1. ISRAEL LAFLEUR (LAFLOWER) issue: 2 sons, one of which was named ANDREW LAFLEUR. 2. JOSEPH (BIENVENUE) WELCOME FOUNTAINE, born 3 April 1843, died 18 May 1909 at Whitehall and buried at Elbow Cemetary. One of these children was named MARIE CORDELIA "DELIA BERNADETTE" FOUNTAINE, born 28 February 1880 at Whitehall. Also from this marriage was another daughter, LENA FOUNTAINE, born 25 June 1889 at Whitehall. LENA married Prim Aubin (Blanchette) on 31 August 1905. My father mentioned all these names, as well as some of the children of his aunt LENA. These were: JOSEPH, GEORGIE (a girl). I have other information stashed away which I can send you as soon as I have eaten turkey here and turkey there and a little turkey everywhere, if you think this can help you. Hope to hear from you soonest, Happy Holiday to you! You helped us make the connection from the Plattsburg, NY Bienveues and the Fontaines. This was great and the Welcomes in Massachusetts are very happy to know about their Family History. We are even considering the reunion in Quebec next summer. By the way, I have not seen a Newsletter yet. Do you have any past issues that I can read? Happy Holidays from the Welcomes, Brian Oulighan

    3. Hmmm. Looking over my information, there appears to be some confusion on the marriage of the youngest Etienne. PRDH says that Marthe (Marie-Genevieve) Dagneau/Daniau dit Laprise married Etienne Fontaine, son of Etienne and Marie Conille. This would be his third marriage. It makes sense, since Marie-Madeleine Fournier is rumored (i.e. I don't have proof :^) to have died in 1736. Instead I should have: Etienne Fontaine (Etienne & Marie-Madeleine Fournier) b. 23-Jan-1717 m. contract. 6-Jan-1739 Notaire C. Michon Catherine Gaudin (Pierre & Catherine Pellerin dit Colbec) If the three marriages of Etienne, son of Etienne & Marie Conille, is correct, he had 8 + 9 + 14 children for the three marriages respectively for a total of 31 children !! Boy, was he busy. :^) Then again, some died young. Tony Fontaine ----- Original Message ----- From: Tony Fontaine Etienne Fontaine (Jacques & Jeanne Colinet) m. 8-Feb-1683 St-Laurent, I.O. 3. Hi Tony, I started surfing around and I found this information on Stanislas Fontaine, who was my great grandfather, and as far as I know he was married to Celine Denis. Do you have this in your data base? He is recent enough, so I wonder if it is a mistake. (I have a list of his other children too). 622. Stanislas8 Fontaine (Léon7, Jean6, Joseph5, Jean-Baptiste4, Antoine3, Etienne2, Jacques1) (#34774) (living status unknown). 3. Thanks for the correction. I would not be the least surprised to find many errors in the papers I have, I don't know much about who gathered the information. We have the same degree of information on my father's mother's side (Blais <- Carriere dit Le Brun), and I found lots of mistakes. I think, then, what must have happened is that whoever wrote up our family history confused Marie Ursule with Tharsile, so I would like to try to correct this if possible. Should I just scratch out the marriage information for Marie Ursule? (funny, I have her birth date as Dec. 3 1835, that must be a straight copy error), no death date though. So who are the parents of Tharsile? (this seems like a strange name to me, where does it come from? or is it possible that they are different forms of the same name - there are several phonemes in common). As for Jean-baptiste Fontaine and Ursule Gagne, I have the following children, Please tell me if there are mistakes: Honore Philippe Marie Ursule Anathalie Jacques Fenelon (my great great grandfather) married to Sophie Bolduc a Saint Victor le 16 fev. 1863 J. 3. Hi, I am looking for all children born to Godfrey Fontaine and Marguerite Chapdelaine. They were married on February 23, 1846 at Saint David, Yamaska, Quebec. I have one child, Antoine Fontaine, born in 1856. I don't know where in Quebec. Thanks, Judith :)

    3. I have the Marie Ursule Fontaine b.2-Dec-1835 to Jean-Baptiste Fontaine and Ursule Gagne (aka Gagnez). However, I do not have a marriage for Marie Ursule. The Marie Ursule Fontaine and Tharsile Fontaine in question are second cousins in our database. However, we have Tharsile, not Ursule married to Pierre Binet/Binette. Tony Fontaine www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/5233/ Canadian Fontaine Genealogy Association ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lise Fontaine" <lf@lri.fr> I have her in my geneology papers, She's listed as M. Ursule marieé 1856 a Pierre Binet, Ste Marie, and her parents were Jean Fontaine and Ursule Gagniez. Jean (Baptiste) Fontaine, born Feb. 14, 1805, a St. Henri, marie Aug. 28, 1832, Ste. Marie Usule Gagniez, fille de Pierre Gagniez dit Belavance et Marguerite. I can go back further on the Fontaine side, but that's it. I don't have the list of the children born to Jean Fontaine and Ursule Gagniez, that's where our family breaks off and we follow Fenelon (Leon) Jacques Fontaine (who would be the brother of M. Ursule Fontaine, married to Binet. I think that this information was taken from a book by Frere Eloi, 'Les Genealogies de la Beauce'. I hope this helps.
