Tony, here goes as to who I am then.I guess Olivine would be my ggg-aunt! Olivine Fontaine married Pierre C. Desrosiers. Pierre was a brother to Jean-Baptiste Desrosiers, who married Aurelie Guertin. Their son Joseph Hormisdas Desrosiers married Florence Lillian ROO. Their son Joseph Roden Desrosiers married Velda Mae SHERRET. These were my grandparents. Nice to meet you! Posted on: FONTAINE Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/surnames/f/o/FONTAINE/queries/10037 Surname: Brassard, Fontaine ------------------------- I'm going to be a party poopper. Asking questions like "Please give me everything you have on the Brassards" is a genealogy nightmare. There are LOTS of them. It requires too much time to service such a request. It is better to ask specific questions on your own lineage, on a specific couple, and work from there. I understand it would be nice to receive information from such a request, but from personal experience it just takes too much time away from our own research. I don't know what line of Fontaine's you are connected to. If you are connected to the Huguenot lines, unfortunately Fred Fontaine has passed away. Finding someone to fill his shoes as libriarian of the Fontaine-Maury lineage will be difficult. I have information on the Canadian Fontaine lines. So please, be more specific with your request. I hope this msg is not sent to the List but.... My name is Yolanda "Fountain" / Fontaine etc etc. Although I lived with both parents, I know nothing about my father. He appeared, at age 30 in my mother's village (in 1929). They were married l year later. His life and family before are a mystery. Before I can start tracing his family, I must find a true link to the past. I know I am grasping at straws here, but please answer if you can: Do you, in your family, have an uncle or great-uncle who broke family ties or disappeared at about that time? Although he may have gone so far as to change his name, here is the information I have been told: Name: Wilfrid Ralph Fountain (though once a "stranger" walked up to him and said "Hello, Dick!" Born: 7 March 1899 (once he said he was born in or near Quebec City) Lived in the States because he didn't speak French very well - terrible accent. I believe he spent some of his formative years around Boston or along the east coast of Maine. This I say because of the way he pronounced certain words. He was a deep-sea diver and worked on under-water construction; repairing wharfs and dams etc. This I know is true. I have searched (as much as possible from where I live) Census records; Home Children; Orphan lists; variants of the Fountain name; etc. To no avail. I need to make that first connection. Thank you for your attention Yolanda Fountain
Hello Yolanda; Sorry I cannot be of any help to you on this. I just learned my Fontaine connection recently ; it comes from my Côté line which married into my Aubin line. Take care, and good luck , Kevin

>This could just be a common research mistake. From Tanguay (vol.1), daughter >Marie Conille baptised 1665 at LaRochelle; m. 8-Feb-1683 to Etienne Fontaine >at St. Laureint, I.O. The researcher may have mistaken LaRochelle, France >with LaRochelle, Nouvelle-France. However, her baptism is recorded in France, >NOT Nouvelle-France. It is believed Marie came to Canada with her parents. I agree. actually, I ended up spending my afternoon seeing what I could find out. I don't know why I want to fill in that gap about how/why Marie ended up in Canada. From what I have found, you are right about the birth taking place in France (and the marriage of Marie Giton and Pierre Conille in France as well), it seems that Pierre Conille died about four years after their marriage, leaving his wife and a young daugther (ancestor Marie who married Etienne Fontaine). They seem to have arrived in Canada alone and Marie Giton married Andre Bernard in 1676 in Quebec. This Andre Bernard was already in Canada, in Beauport in 1664, and he was originally from La Rochelle in France too. So my guess would be that the two families knew each other, perhaps, and that once Pierre died, Marie Giton was sent to Canada or chose to go to Canada to marry Andre Bernard. They lived together on Ile d'Orleans, Marie Giton and Andre Bernard had at least one daughter together, but I think they might have had four children. And, then of course, Marie Conille married Etienne Fontaine. This is likely since there do not seem to be any Conille children or other relatives in Canada around that time. I guess we'll never know for sure what happened. But it would be strange for a woman and a young girl to travel alone with no plans for survival once in Canada, unless she was a 'fille du roi' and there is no mention of that anywhere. cheers, Lise Fontaine
can someone comment on this? i thought marie conille (who married Etienne Fontaine) was born in France. It would explain how she got to Quebec if she was born there. 1. Pierre1 Conille birth date unknown. He married Marie Gitton 1664.(1487) Marie was born 1649.(1488) He resided in St. Nicolas de Larochelle, Nicolet, PQ, Canada.(1489) Pierre Conille and Marie Gitton had the following child: 2 i.
