this is kinda early, but I liked this story so much and wanted to share it. kath A Father's Day Story: A Meal to Remember by Liz Franklin We lost my dear mother-in-law in March 1986. My own dear mother was lost to us in 1982. For Father's Day 1986, my husband Rick and I decided to have a very special dinner in our home for both our dads instead of the usual after-church dinner at a restaurant. I stayed home from church that morning to fix that very special meal. I had recently found a very delicious recipe for Lobster Newburg that I wanted to try, knowing how well both our dads loved seafood. During and after that special meal, my dad continually remarked about the delicious Lobster Newburg, but my father-in-law said nothing, although I noticed he had three portions. In April 2000, we lost my wonderful father-in-law. A few days before his passing, this very special man said to me quite out of the blue: "Liz, I have been lying here thinking about the special little moments in my life, and one of those was Father's Day 1986 and your delicious Lobster Newburg. I don't know if I ever told you how much I enjoyed that special favorite of mine, or how much it your making it that day meant to me. Lobster Newburg was a very special dish that my dear Charlotte (my husband's mother) would make for me on my birthday and our anniversary. I was missing Charlotte so very much that day and didn't want to visit with others, but your Lobster Newburg made my day, because it helped to bring back all those wonderful memories of those private, special dinners with my dear Charlotte." I then understand why my father-in-law had been so quiet during and after that meal on Father's Day 1986. He was reliving happy memories with his recently lost best friend of 45 years, his dear wife Charlotte. Last Father's Day, and every Father's Day from now on, I will remember this story, and how the extra time taken for a special dish brought happiness to a very special man in my life.
