< Subject: Wings An article in National Geographic several years ago provided a penetrating picture of God's wings. After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live. "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you find refuge." (Psalm 91:4) Being loved this much should make a difference in your life. Remember the one who loves you, and then be different because of it. Please pass this on to others you care about and don't drive faster than your Guardian Angel can fly. My instructions were to send this to people that I wanted God to bless and I picked YOU. Please pass this on to people you want to be blessed. «:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«^i^MISSI ^i^«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§« Richiele Marie [email protected] (Missi) I disbelieved in reincarnation in my last life, too. »§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«

Dear World By Avril Johannes The principal of my son Scott's school called to say he had something important he wished to share with me and asked when he might be able to come over and visit. With Scott's graduation only a few weeks away, I presumed the principal's call must have something to do with that event, though the announcement of a teenager's prank crossed my mind. I awaited his arrival and assumed the news was good. The news was very good indeed: Scott was to graduate valedictorian. In honor of my son's achievement, the principal asked me to write something for the occasion. I said I would be delighted. I was so proud of Scott and his accomplishments. Sitting at my typewriter, I mulled over the events of Scott's life. Then I realized the true significance of his graduation. It meant he and his classmates would be entering a world of unknowns. We would no longer be there on a daily basis to guide him, advise him or care for him. And so, I wrote the following letter to the world: Dear World: Our children finish school today. It's all going to be quite strange to them for a while, and I wish you would treat them kindly. You see, up to now they have been king of their roost and their parents have always been near to soothe their wounds and repair their feelings. Now things are going to be different. They are starting out on a new adventure. It is an adventure that may include war and tragedy and sorrow. To make their way they will require a great deal of faith, love, tolerance and understanding. So, world, I wish you would look after them. Take them by the hand and teach them the things they will need to know, but please, world, do it gently if you can. They will have to learn that not all people are just, that not all people are fair, and that not all people are true. But also teach them that for every villain there is a hero, that for every crooked politician there is a great and dedicated leader, and that for every enemy there is a good friend. It will take time, world, but teach them that a nickel earned is of more value than a dollar found. Teach them to lose gracefully so that they will enjoy winning that much more. Steer them away from envy, if you can, and teach them the secret of quiet laughter. Teach them to be at peace with their God. Teach them to be strong inside so they can stand the hurt of failure and keep the desire to try again until they succeed. Teach them to be gentle with gentle people, and to be tough with tough people. Teach them to follow their judgment and not the crowd. Teach them to listen to all people, but to filter all they hear through a screen of truth. Teach them to laugh when they are sad, but also teach them that there is no shame in shedding tears. Teach them there can be glory in failure and despair in success. Teach them to disregard cynics and to beware of too much sweetness. Teach them to sell their brains and brawn to the highest bidder, but never to put a price on their heart and soul. Teach them if you can, not to compare themselves with others, as there will always be greater or lesser persons. Teach them instead to surpass their own accomplishments. Teach them there is a time to gamble, but there is also a time to pass the dice. Treat them gently, world, but don't coddle them; only the test of fire makes the finest steel. Teach them to have sublime faith in themselves as this will give them faith in mankind. This is quite an order, world, but see what you can do. They are such nice young people - our children. «:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«^i^MISSI ^i^«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§« Richiele Marie [email protected] (Missi) I disbelieved in reincarnation in my last life, too. »§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«
Why do birds sing? Why is the sky blue? Why does the sun rise? Why do fools fall in love? We're really getting down to bedrock with this question, which is only two degrees of separation from, "What is life?" Have you noticed that there are few sopranos among the birdies? Singing is generally a guy thing in the feathered set. One reason for it is to stake out territory, which is lot neater than how many other animals accomplish the same thing – peeing all over the place instead of putting up a fence. And, hey, you can't nest alone. Mr. Bird breaks into song when he's on the make. Birds who sing the most usually have marked out territory rich in food. That's what the female birds are looking for: a guy with the goods. They don't care if he can't carry a tune, as long as he can put worms on the table. Source: EVER WONDER WHY? By Douglas B. Smith Richard the Distant Did you know that Richard the Lionhearted was married? But his Queen, Berengia, lived in Italy and never once traveled to England. So if you meet someone who claims to be one of their descendants, be very suspicious. Peter the Great, Emperor of Russia, was just under 7 feet tall. Nevertheless, he couldn't dribble and had no jump shot to speak of. Ann Hutchison Nov. 19, 2001 NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. Release: 01-89AR NASA AMES SETS RECORD COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN DONATIONS Civil service employees at NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley have set an all-time record for donating to the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The federal employees and retirees at Ames contributed more than $263,000 this year, exceeding the Ames campaign goal of $223,473 by nearly $40,000. This represents an increase of about 18 percent over last year's total contributions. Campaign organizers held the annual two-week fundraiser earlier than usual, to give employees an opportunity to contribute to organizations supporting the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. "This year's Combined Federal Campaign at NASA Ames is the most successful ever," said Ames Director Dr. Henry McDonald. "I am extremely pleased and proud of the way the Ames family responded, particularly when the needs are so great." Grace Ann Weiler, Ames' CFC chairperson, also was thrilled with this year's campaign. "The CFC volunteers at NASA Ames stepped up to the challenge and started the annual request for donations early this year," she said. "This allowed civil servants and contractors to help support the charitable organizations that are aiding the victims of the recent attack on America, the victims' families and the usual charities of their choice." Ames ranks first in per-employee donations among Santa Clara County employers with more than 1,000 workers. The Combined Federal Campaign supports and promotes philanthropy through an employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective program by providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. It was established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy to consolidate numerous charitable campaigns, allowing for a single annual campaign in all federal, postal and military agencies. Donations to the CFC support more than 2,000 local, national and international charities. "The people of Ames showed outstanding participation by helping to continue the tradition of leadership in displaying compassion for the people in our community and country," Weiler noted. -end- To receive Ames news releases via -email, send an -email with the word "subscribe" in the subject line to: [email protected] To unsubscribe, send an -email to the same address with "unsubscribe" in the subject line. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Spring" ~*~ KITCHEN SINK DRAIN CLEANER 1 cup table salt 1 cup baking soda ¼ cup cream of tartar Mix these dry ingredients in a glass jar by shaking well. Use only ¼ of a cup at a time, directly down the drain, followed by 2 cups of boiling water. After a couple of minutes, turn on the faucet for a minute or so. This is a preventive maintenance formula and won't work when the sink is already clogged. Regular use will prevent a grease build up in the trap and make your sink smell better. How often? About once a month. Is it OK for the sink disposer side? No problem. Does it work in the bathroom? Not as well as on grease problems which is the biggest culprit in the kitchen drain. Keep the mix tightly sealed between uses. ~*~ DRAIN CLEANER # 2 (Also preventive maintenance but works on all home drains) ½ cup washing soda (larger super markets carry it in the detergent section) 1 gallon hot water Turn on hot water faucet to run down the drain for a full minute. Turn off faucet and pour in mix. Wait for 10 minutes and then flush the line with hot water from the faucet for another minute. ~*~ WATERPROOFING WORK SHOES AND HUNTING BOOTS 2 ½ oz.. neet's-foot oil (available at leather places, tackle shop and sporting goods stores) ¾ oz.. mineral oil ½ oz.. paraffin Caution: flammable mixture! Rub into boots with rag, paying special attention to area where boot top and sole meet. ~*~ WINDOW CLEANING RECIPE 1 cup kerosene* ½ cup ammonia 1 gallon warm water Sponge on and squeegee off. Then polish the glass with wadded newspaper. To make streaks show up better, do one side of the glass with all vertical strokes and the other with all horizontal strokes. You need not have a stroke over streaks! *kerosene is flammable and also leaves a slight odor, but not for long. ~*~ WINDOW CLEANER #2 2 Tablespoons cornstarch ½ cup ammonia 1 cup white vinegar 1 gallon warm water Apply the same as above. ~*~ WINDOW SPOT CLEANER 2 cups rubbing alcohol ½ cup ammonia 1 Tablespoon liquid dishwasher detergent Pour into spray bottle. Spritz onto spot an wipe with wadded newspaper. ~*~ ANT FORMULA FOR SUGAR LOVING ANTS 2 parts molasses 1 part sugar 1 part dry yeast powder After mixing put a dab of this on strings of cardboard near the line of ants. Let stand for 20-30 minutes. Rinse well with a garden hose to prevent damage to plants. Wear rubber gloves when handling. This mix is also great for general cleaning on outside surfaces. ~*~ ROACH KILLER MIX #1 4 Tablespoons boric acid powder 2 Tablespoons of either flour or sugar 1 Tablespoon of cocoa Mix well and then put in bottle caps or make small trays of aluminum foil. Put these where roaches are likely to be and soon, they won't be anymore. ~*~ GREEN-UP LAWN RECIPE 1 cup Epsom salts 1 cup household ammonia 1 can beer 2 cups water Pour into hose-end sprayer and apply. Covers and peps up about 2000 square feet. ~*~ BRASS CLEANER FORMULA ½ cup flour ½ cup detergent ¾ cup vinegar 1/3 cup lemon juice ½ cup hot water ~*~ GRANDPA CARRELL'S CHEWING TOBACCO FURNITURE STAIN 1 plug of chewing tobacco 1 pint ammonia 1 quart jar with air-tight lid Break up and crumble the plug into the quart jar. Use another to rinse off with plain water. When cleaning walls, always start at the bottom and work up. Less chance of streaks. ~*~ MORE WALL CLEANER MAGIC ½ cup Borax powder ½ teaspoon of dish washing detergent 1 Tablespoon ammonia 2 gallons warm water Use in the same manner as with the above mix. ~*~ BATHROOM MILDEW CLEANER FOR THOSE ALLERGIC TO BLEACH 1 cup white vinegar 1 cup Borax powder 2 cups warm water Apply generously over mildew spot with a spray bottle. Put a string through the hole and hang each strip where the flies are. ~*~ PET VS. SKUNK DEODORIZER 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide 1/4 cup baking soda 1 teaspoon liquid soap Mix well and bathe pet in this solution. Be sure to keep it out of the pet's eyes. Rinse with clear water. It works! This mix has no shelf life so it cannot be stored. If you have outside pets and live in an area where skunks also exist, keep a couple of bottles of peroxide on hand.

Here are a few more tips. I hope everyone enjoyed the Reader's tips issue as I did. ~*~ If you are looking for a nice moist turkey breast and not as concern with having a nice brown turkey to take to the table this is a good tip, I learned from a cater. Place turkey with breast side down, this way the juices will go into the breast and not the backside of the turkey. Also regards to stuffing your turkey. I like to use the neck and all the stuff that comes inside the little bag you get in the turkey. I boil it for awhile and use that broth for the dressing. Also you can then chop up finely those ingredients and add to the dressing along with a good sausage meat. Do not stuff your turkey the night before you cook it. They will open little bottles like vanilla, etc. I have a snib on my front door and use them to open it. I turn taps on and off with them. Any bottles in the bathroom cupboard open with little or no effort. June ~*~ From the first Christmas my children were born, I buy (or make) a Christmas ornament and put each child's name on it and the yr. When my step daughter married I wrapped up all the years ornaments and gave them to her as a personal shower gift. This way they have ornaments for their 1st Christmas tree. If you don't feel you are talented enough to make the ornaments can be purchased for as little as $1 and using a paint pen you can put the name and date on it. I also do this now for my grandson and give it to his parents...he will have the yearly ornament from them as well as Grampy and Granny.
