An old Indian (Native American) was spending the afternoon with his grandson. The boy asked, "Grandfather, What will I be like when I grow up?" The grandfather answered, "Inside you are two wolves, a black one and a white one. The black one represents all that is evil in the world, and the white one all that is good. They are fighting over your soul." "Which one will win, Grandfather?", the boy asked. "That depends on which one you feed." replied the old man. Sent from my iPhone
Anyone have ghost stories? My mom an dad lived alone the Ark River an told stories of long dead . 2 of them were While she was pregnant and went to The river a man in an odd military uniform would stand guard near a big tree that had fallen. After the baby came he never showed up again 2nd one was if Mom was outside with the baby/kids asleep they'd hear a woman singing. They would go in to check an see if kids were ok and the rocker would be moving. It was a warm summer day when an elderly gentleman heard a knock at his front door. He answered the door to find a young man with a handful of brochures. The young man politely said, "I'd like to talk to you". The man said to him. "You look very warm, How would you like a cold glass of water?" The young man eagerly agreed, and was invited in to have a seat while the elderly man went to get the water. When he returned, the man also sat down and said to the young man, "Now, What would like to talk to me about?" The young man looked surprised and answered "Darned if I know, I never got this far before!"

Love this quote, Elaine. The sprinfield Missouri Library has a web site which include selected , read on line, Ozark Magazines. Folklore abounds in them. The late Ellen Grey Masse was a friend and the spirit behind a foxfire magazine before Foxfire books were published. Collected by students and covered all type of Ozark folk lore and customs. Vance Randolphs books are still published. This new game called Kopp is a very old skills game with, like all folk recreation, called many things. I believe it to be played much like "my era ", nineball ,in which a mud and grass balls(sometimes other things too) was thrown to upset an opponents nine pins and one then could attack the king or castle and become ruler for the day. Nearly any book or magazine on folklore will have hundreds. From sheepwool lanalon to oliveoil and all the oils inbetween. One of my favorites is greek oregano oil on gauled or itching skin(barber's Rash). You can probably find plenty with your search engine if you are looking. If you are telling, tell all by using this site and site your sources, please. If it is products you might try the subjects clovereene, Watkins, bagbalm etc. Bud in Mo. how do go about receiving or sending a message ?? According to tradition, if a groundhog comes out of its hole on this day and sees its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather; no shadow means an early spring. Groundhog Day has its roots in the ancient Christian tradition of Candlemas Day, when clergy would bless and distribute candles needed for winter. The candles represented how long and cold the winter would be. Germans expanded on this concept by selecting an animal--the hedgehog--as a means of predicting weather. Once they came to America, German settlers in Pennsylvania continued the tradition, although they switched from hedgehogs to groundhogs, which were plentiful in the Keystone State. Groundhogs, also called woodchucks and whose scientific name is Marmota monax, typically weigh 12 to 15 pounds and live six to eight years. They eat vegetables and fruits, whistle when they're frightened or looking for a mate and can climb trees and swim. They go into hibernation in the late fall; during this time, their body temperatures drop significantly, their heartbeats slow from 80 to five beats per minute and they can lose 30 percent of their body fat. In February, male groundhogs emerge from their burrows to look for a mate (not to predict the weather) before going underground again. They come out of hibernation for good in March. In 1887, a newspaper editor belonging to a group of groundhog hunters from Punxsutawney called the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club declared that Phil, the Punxsutawney groundhog, was America's only true weather-forecasting groundhog. The line of groundhogs that have since been known as Phil might be America's most famous groundhogs, but other towns across North America now have their own weather-predicting rodents, from Birmingham Bill to Staten Island Chuck to Shubenacadie Sam in Canada. In 1993, the movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray popularized the usage of "groundhog day" to mean something that is repeated over and over. Today, tens of thousands of people converge on Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney each February 2 to witness Phil's prediction. The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club hosts a three-day celebration featuring entertainment and activities. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
