She was born June 17, 1923, in Slater, Mo., the daughter of Marshall A. and Agnes Johnson Flynn. She married Robert J. Ess. She later married William R. Opolka in 1969 in Decatur; he died Jan. 18. A son, Robert G. Ess, and a stepson, Michael Opolka, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Opolka was a homemaker and was of the Catholic faith. Survivors: son, John A. Ess of Edwardsville; two stepsons, Bruce W. (wife, Sue) Opolka of Lenzburg and Scott D. (wife, Dana) Opolka of Sparta; stepdaughter, Linda L. DeWeese of Taylorville; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Patrick (wife, Marie) Flynn of North Judson, Ind. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, the Rev. Charles Dahlby officiating.
