Very interesting... My father was Howard Flynn but I know of no other howards in the family. He was born in 1911 in Flint Michigan so i dont think there is any relationship. I do think that it must of been a family name but i have not been able to trace back to Ireland (relatives found on NYC 1860 census with a Donahoo family). interesting tho Howard Flynn DVM Medford, New York
You might trace that Donahoo family back to Canada. My Flynns lived in Huntingdon Co. Quebec, and one of the daughters, Elizabeth, married James Donohoe. I found them first, on the birth certificate of my gr. aunt, Catherine Flynn, in 1860, at the parish of St. Joesph. ( wrote to the Parish in Canada for the information.) Then I found them all living in Godmanchester township, 1861 Canadian census, with the father listed as Thomas Donohoe. Then in 1867 Business Directory of Hungtingdon Co., Godmanchester Township, I found a James Donohoe, farmer, New Ireland, Huntingdon Co. along with my gr grandfather, Bernard Flynn who is listed a a farmer and water inspector, and my GG grandfather Peter Flynn who is listed as a farmer and valuator. He also signed the census for 1851. You can get these census reports from your public library. I got the Business Directory from the public library at Seattle. My thinking is that many children and young men and women lived with relatives until they got established. And my gr.grandfather, Bernard, plus a couple of his brothers, (John, who later married, Mary Harvey of Syracuse, whose father owned the salt works) moved back and forth in between New York and Canada before he finally decided to come west. He came to Michigan, and worked as a bookkeeper in Bay City. His boys, Alfred and Andrew were born there. Could be the Donohoes did this as well, back and forth between the two places. Travel between the two countries was no problem at all, back then. But I know of no Howards in the family. You have to be very careful when you start with these families, because they will name all of their children after all of the parent's children, and in the same order!! It really gets confusing....
