(can't remember). In Abbeyfeale, I have found 2 Maurice Flynn's and 2 William Flynn's (or at least each name with a different wife) as parents in birth records in the IGI. I suspect that there may have been an extended family in the Abbeyfeale area. "My" Maurice actually lived in Washington DC in the 1850's (at least 2 children born there), reportedly working on the Washington Monument. He then removed his family back to Ireland at the start of the Civil War, where the remaining children were born. I don't believe he ever returned to the US, although some of his children did in the 1880's. It sounds like "your" Flynns are half a generation or so older than mine; I'm guessing that "my" Maurice was born around 1830 - 1835.

William FLYNN (and Margaret Broderick FLYNN) each were raising families in Abbeyfeale, Limerick in 1860 - 1880+. Might Francis have been another brother? Do you have any additional information? Maurice and William appear to have each named their first daughter Elizabeth -- might that have been their mother's name?

They are my gggrandparents and came to the United States from Ireland in the late 1870s. I believe they were in Stark County, Illinois for the 1880 census, and moved into Iowa shortly thereafter. Iowa counties include Louisa, Washington and Wapello. Children: Joseph born 1862 County Meath, Ireland, died February 29, 1904 Hartingon, Cedar County, Nebraska, married Margaret J. Duire/Dwyer at Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa on December 12, 1885. Probably eight children, most died as children. Those that survived and had offspring were Patrick Joseph (my grandfather), Julia, and Mary. Thomas about 1864 Catherine about 1868 Michael about 1872 Lena about 1874 Mary about 1878 I'm not sure about the last two children. Lena shows up on the 1880 census of Stark County, Illinois. All children were born in Ireland, to my knowledge. Mary isn't on the census, but she is mentioned in other researchers information that I have seen. Would love to find out anything I can about these folks! Descendants, ancestors, or even just some more specific details would be great. Thanks, Joni

Surnames: Flynn, Boyd, Duire/Dwyer Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4dW.2ACEB/5.122.1 Message Board Post: Is Thomas Flynn who married Julia Boyd the son of Michael Flynn and Rose Winters? If so, he is the brother of my great-grandfather, Joseph Flynn. Joseph married Margaret Duire/Dwyer in 1885 in Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa. They ended up in Coleridge, Cedar County, Nebraska by the mid 1890s, when my grandfather, Patrick Joseph Flynn, was born in 1896. Joe and Margaret had at least eight children, but only three or four lived to adulthood--Patrick, Julia, Mary and possibly John or Jack (he supposedly died in 1918 of the flu). Joseph died February 29, 1904 of consumption, and three daughters died during March 1904 of measles. When my parents were first married, they send Christmas cards to a couple of Flynn ladies--my mom seems to think their names were Irene and Mae and they lived in either South Dakota or Minnesota. This would have been the early 1960s. My dad, Patrick's son, is an only child. Grandpa talked little about his family, and didn't know a whole lot. It would be nice to find some Flynn relatives! By the way, my dad and mom moved to the Milwaukee area in 1959 and we are still here! Joni (Flynn) Vella

At present I have as my ancestors James Flynn (VA) > Laughlin Flinn ( VA ) > Laughlin Flinn > Thomas Flinn aft 1620 > John Flinn ca. 1600; but I do not know when the early fellows came to America or where they came from in Ireland. Can anyone help? On one of my unrelated lines I have data giving a county of origin in Ireland as Derry, was there ever such a county? or was Londonderry sometimes called Derry? I have thought about Kerry County but since the Derry appears in more than one source I felt the recorders meant to write Derry.

Surnames: KENNELLY KANALLEY KANALEY FLYNN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4dW.2ACEB/1288.2.1 Message Board Post: Hi there! I am Craig Kanalley, great-great-great-grandson of Rose Flynn Kennelly. Here's how it goes. My grandfather was Kenneth Kanalley. My great-grandfather was Wallace Kanalley. Wallace James Kanalley was born in 1902 in Cleveland, Ohio to James Bernard Kanalley & Mary Ann Wallace. James Bernard Kanalley was born on May 15, 1868 in Cobourg, Ontario to Thomas Kennelly & Rose Flynn. Thomas Kennelly came from Co Limerick Ireland to Canada in 1849. In Cobourg he met Rose Flynn, and they were married at the Catholic Church in Cobourg in 1852. Here's everything I know about Rose... Born (abt.) March 8, 1831 in Ireland Immigrated 1850 from Ireland to Canada w/ brother Jeremiah Married Nov. 26, 1852 St. Michael's in Cobourg Died June 16, 1902 in Cobourg from sudden heart failure She was a well-known, well-respected woman of Cobourg, according to her death notice, which appeared in the Cobourg Star Newspaper. As far as her birthdate goes, I use several sources... How old was Rose? 1861 Census - age 30 (born 1831) 1871 Census - age 40 (born 1831) 1881 Census - age 45 (born 1836) 1891 Census - age 60 (born 1831) 1901 Census - age 69 - born Mar. 8, 1831 Death Certificate - age 70 (born 1832) So it is fairly consistent in records. Now, for Jeremiah... Born 1823 in Co Kerry, Ireland [the county in Ireland coming from his death notice] Died Oct. 15, 1870 in Cobourg He and his wife Catherine had the following children: Bridget 1856, John 1858, Elizabeth (abt 1860), Daniel 1862, Catherine 1865, & James 1868. Elizabeth died in 1866 in Cobourg. I know nothing more about the children or Jeremiah. And I am hoping you can help me find more. I am particularly interested in finding the parents of Rose & Jeremiah...and where exactly in Co Kerry they were from. Unfortunately I have no pictures of Rose or the Flynn relatives. If you have any pictures I'd be very happy to see them. Feel free to e-mail me directly or post a reply on this board. Great to meet you cousin! Keep in touch as we continue with this Flynn search!
