    1. Cork Co., IRE Flynns
    2. Linda Talbott
    3. Hello, I've never posted before so here are my Flynns. James FLYNN b. about 1820 in Cork Co., IRE. The only way I know this is that on one of the census records the enumerator "messed up" and actually wrote the exact place of birth. James FLYNN came to NY and settled in Scipio, Cayuga Co, NY. He was married to Mary LOWRY about 1847/48 in Ireland as their first child was born there. His known siblings that came here were Margaret FLYNN b. abt 1813 and married John CONRAN, and Eliza FLYNN b. abt 1834 and married Abraham BIRD in Auburn, NY. From Margaret (Flynn) Conran's death record I have her parents as James FLYNN and Mary (unknown). John and Margaret (FLYNN) Conran were my 3rd great grandparents. These Flynns were all RC and I'm having a very hard time finding any more information. 1. FLINN - FLYNN >Ireland >Illinois >Missouri >Nebraska
    2. Hi Everyone, I recently got the roll of film from NARA on the ship Hartley. Made copies of all the pages of that ship but haven't had time to check yet and see if anyone else looks like he or she might be a family member. There were 219 passengers aboard the vessel. IMMIGRATION DATA Ship - Hartley Departed From - Liverpool, England Arrived - New Orleans, Louisiana Arrival Date - November 6th, 1849 Following is information listed: 38 - Christopher FLINN, age 40, male, clerk, born Ireland Below were listed "Do" (Ditto) for last name same as above. 39 - James, age 30, male, Labourer, born Ireland 40 - Jane, age 30, female, born Ireland 41 - John, age 5, male, born Ireland 42 - Ann, age 3, female, born Ireland 43 - Andrew, Infant, male, born Ireland NOTE: Christopher Flinn although unknown was listed with the same family number which would probably indicate a relationship! --------------------------------------------------- Here's a synopsis of the FLINN - FLYNN family only. The WYBRANT's are related in the fact that James Flinn's wife was Jane Frances Wybrant, a sister of Andrew Wybrant also resided in McDonough County, Illinois. So..... James FLINN and wife Jane, children John, Ann & Andrew arrived November 1849 in New Orleans on the ship Hartley along with another family member Christopher Flinn age 40 (which I have not been able to locate anything on at all so far). Thomas, another son was b. 1846 d. 1847 in Dublin Ireland. James died 1854 and is buried in Fountain Green Cemetery, Hancock County, Illinois. All family members show up in the 1850 McDonough County, Illinois Census. They are living next door to Andrew Wybrant. Ancestry.com has them indexed as SLINN. My Grandfather, also James, was born Feb. 16, 1851 in McDonough County. Another child, Mary, was born and died 1853. 1860 Census - Jane Wybrant Flinn, John, Andrew, Ann & James are living in Lamoine Township, Colmar, McDonough County with Ann Wybrant, age 68. 1870 Censuses - Jane, John & James FLYNN are in Tennessee, McDonough County; Ann/Anna FLINN is now married to James BARKER and living in Lamoine Township, Colmar, McDonough County. Andy Flin is in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois. He married Bridget HUNT in Macon County, Illinois January 24, 1877. 1880 Censuses - Jane FLINN, son James & Granddaughter Mary C. Barker (daughter of Ann & James Barker) are found in Hannibal, Marion County, Missouri. Andrew FLYNN & Bridget with children Joseph & Pearl are in Brookfield, Linn County, Missouri. John B. FLYNN is in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois. He is living with Alice, a 6 month old daughter. Also living with John is his sister Ann Barkley (Barker) with her two eldest children, James & Maggie. Ann is listed as Divorced. Same year her ex-husband, James Barker, is living with his parents in Sheridan Township, Ottawa County, Kansas and listed as widowed. In November 1880 my Grandfather James FLYNN married Sarah Ann MANION in Hannibal Missouri. In 1881 they and his mother, plus all the Barkers moved to North Platte, Lincoln County, Nebraska where most died. Andrew FLYNN died in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska in 1887. His wife Bridget died 1886. Of their 4 children - Joseph, Pearl, Mary & Anna......Joseph ran away from wherever he was living at 16 (1894) and was last seen in Rawlings Wyoming in 1900; Pearl may have died young; Mary turns up in 1910 census married to Henry RITTER. Anna was raised in North Platte by Jane Frances Wybrant Flynn & Anna and Margaret Barker. John FLYNN remarried 1887 in McDonough County Illinois to Maggie/Margaret TARPEY - TORPEY. It states his 2nd marriage and that he was living in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota at the time. John and Maggie wander around in Minnesota and have 4 children and then move to Iowa. Children were Frances (f); Viola; William & Henrietta.

    1. What next? From Leix to Troy NY
    2. Pat Connors
    3. My ggrandmother, Bridget Flynn b ca 1850, emigrated to Troy NY in the 1860-70s. So far, I have found her older brother Hugh and was able to find that he was born in County Leix/Laois before emigrating first to Orange County NY and then to Troy NY. Through death certificates for both, I found their parents were John and Bridget Flynn. While I have found a number of Flynns in Troy, I haven't as yet been able to link them with proof with Bridget and Hugh, nor have I found their parents (with proof) in the USA. Last November I was in Dublin at the National Archives searching through County Leix church records looking for Hugh and Bridget's births. Before going to Ireland I searched the Griffith's Valuation on Otherdays.com and found where most of the Flynns were located in the county because I only had two days in Dublin to do my Flynn research. Well, I didn't find them. So now I am back home and wondering what to do next on this side of the pond. I recently found a cousin, a descendent of Hugh, but she had less info than I on the family. I am open to suggestions. What do you think my next research actions should be with this family? -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

    3. About a year or so ago we had a discussion and vote on whether to have Flynn message board messages come directly to the list and after a close vote I initiated the action to have the messages board messages post directly to the Flynn list. I have waited a year and have seen, as the year went by, the posts to the list from the list's subscribers dwindle to almost nothing so that now the only posts to the list come from the message board which is not how I envisioned this list when I started admining it a few years ago. So I decided to stop the messages from automatically posting to the list. They will come to me first, and then I will forward them to our list. We have 150 subscribers to the Flynn list and most have not been heard from so I will not initate a get-to-know one another exercise...let's start a kinda roll call but centered around 'what do I need to do next'...give some of your data (not too little but certainly not to long or it won't get read)...I will start with my Flynn's in another post to the list. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, list admin http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

Cork, Ireland. Died December 9, 1937 in Cranston, Rhode Island. Married Mary Catherine HARTNETT November 26, 1886 in the Cloyne RC Church, Cloyne, Co. Cork, Ireland. Born May 16, 1869 in Churchtown South, Cloyne, Co. Cork, Ireland. Died November 23, 1950 in Warwick, Rhode Island. Patrick DORGAN was the son of Patrick DORGAN (DARGAN). His mother's name is not known. Mary HARTNETT was the daughter of John HARTNETT and (?) FLYNN Patrick DORGAN emigrated to Ellis Island on October 28, 1869 from Queenstown (Cobh) onboard the Teutonic. He gave his age as 40 which would have him born in 1856! He gave his last Irish address as the townland of Ballylanders in the P.L.U. of Middleton in the civil parish of Ballintemple. Patrick DORGAN may have had a brother named David DORGAN who married a woman named HEALY. They had five children, Elizabeth, John Christopher, David, and Jeremiah and James (twins). They all remained in Ireland and lived in Ballybraher, Ballycotton, East Co. Cork. Mary HARTNETT and their five children (Anne Theresa, Michael Joseph, Patrick Francis, David Andrew, William John) followed Patrick DORGAN, arriving at Ellis Island June 9, 1897 also onboard the Teutonic from Queenstown (Cobh). She gave her age as 28 and last Irish address as Midleton. They settled in Rhode Island. Here are my questions for listers: PATRICK DORGAN: 1. Who is doing research re: DORGAN / HARTNETT / FLYNN / HEALY families of East Cork? 2. Where and when was Patrick DORGAN born? 3. 3. Dear Pat, I have included my original e-mail from me as well as your most-welcomed reply. I apologize for not replying sooner. Our son got married on Feb. 14 and a lot of things got put on hold. Gradually, now, I am getting back into the swing of things. You have mentioned that some of your ancestor's lived in Boston and that Dorchester is part of South Boston. Some addresses I have are 30 Sudan Street, Dorchester, the post mark on these are around 1906; also 28 Sudan Street. This one was in care of a "Mrs. Howe" so my grandfather James Flynn was probably boarding there. I have another one in 1907 Boston Terminal, Gas Plant South Station, Boston; In 1908 the address is 32 Clapp Place, Dorchester; 77 Bartlett Street, Charlestown, Mass; Another one post marked 1911 was 59 Rose Clair Street, Dorchester. I'll search for more addresses but if you would be able to tell me what area the above would fall in according to census, I'd really appreciate it. I found a website for the voter's list back in the 1900's for Boston but there were so many different locations in Boston itself that I was in a state of not knowing anything! Many thanks for your help and again apologize for the long delay in replying.
