    1. James Flynn
    2. Jane Cole
    3. I've been watching this list for a while, but I have yet to see any "early" Flynns. My ancestor, James Flynn, was living in Machias, Maine in the 1770s, and served in the Revolutionary War. According to everything I've found thus far (limited, to say the least) he was married to Mary Kinsella and had children including William, Mary, Eleanor, George and James, Jr. I do not know where he came from or when. Does anyone have this Flynn in their family tree? Jane Cole

    3. THE DEATH OF PETER FLYNN by E. Eberhard Down in the cloudy west The sun had sunk to rest, And night around her ebon garb had thrown: That pale, nocturnal queen Upon her throne was seen. And through the drifting clouds from heaven Shone. Between the silv'ry bars Of clouds, the glittering stars Upon our little earth each cast a smile. When child and friend drew nigh To bid a long good-bye To one now soon to leave this world so vile. The soul of Peter Flynn Fled from this world of sin On Saturday, the seventeenth of May, Unto that blissful shore Where sorrow comes no more. His spirit fled in peace and love away. For eighty-seven years He, in this vale of tears, A character unsoiled, unblemished, bore, His duty well he's done. A crown of glory won A happy home upon that golden shore. Hard by the old oak tree, An oblong mound we see, And underneath the newly broken sod, His body, free from woe, Is lying, cold and low: His soul has fled to meet its Judge, its God. O! Holy Virgin, pray For us, who here must stay, Besieged, deluged by sorrow, grief and care Upon our dying day, O! Mary, for us pray. And save us from the tempter's luring snare. St Paul, Oregon, May 20, 1873 Sept. 12, 1871 Mary Flynn On the twenty third of Septmenber eighteen hundred and seventy one, we, the undersigned priests, have buried in the grave yard of St. Paul's Parish, the corpse of Mary Flynn, wife of Peter Flynn aged seventy one who died the twenty third. Witnesses: Mr. Brentans and Mich. Horan etc. (M. Horan is his son-in-law, Pat E.) May 20, 1873 Peter Flynn On the twentieth day of May A.D. eighteen hundred and seventy three, we the undersigned, pastor of The Parish of St. Paul, have buried Peter Flynn of this place, "passed away" on the eighteenth of the same month he being then eighty seven years etc. Witnesses: John Bienta, James (?) man, (?) , and many others. Get regular updated patches from Microsoft at: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com 2. Get a firewall program. Saturday night, I was warned by my ISP (SBC) of this coming threat. Yesterday, I was in San Francisco all day and when I got home late last night. I took care of my email and forgot about it. This morning I had another email from my ISP and at the time I was reading it, on the radio, they were reporting about the Sasser. So I stopped reading my mail and updated my Windows patches and finally bought a Norton Firewall ($50) and four hours later have all installed. One of the Window patches I downloaded was a program to alert me when a new security patch was available. That way I can't forget to do regular checks. I know virus/worm protection is not genealogy related but since we are all doing genealogy on the computer it is important to be aware of the newest ways to protect ourselves. As the list administrator I believe it is my duty to bring these warnings to you attention. Now, I need some help since I am ignorant on how this firewall is working and getting all these strange messages about files trying to invade my computer when surfing from website to website. 3. My information shows Thomas & John as sons of Edmund. You show Thomas as a son of John. I am descended thru Laughlin, Jr's brother Patrick. it has been passed down thru two branches of the family ( Isah & Jesse's descendants) that Patrick came from County Cork. There is no physical evidence to support this. I visited Ireland in 2001 and ran out of time before I could do much research. I show that Thomas married Mary Laughlin in Wexford in1660. I would not know where to begin but it would be interesting to see if a record of the marriage could be found and what information it might show. Enjoy Ireland. Best of Luck Richard W. 3. I think you need to provide more information for anyone to be able to respond to your query in an informed manner. There are Rootsweb mailing lists for both Dumfries/Galloway and Wigtown in South West Scotland. There were a huge number of Irish born (particularly from Northern Ireland) in Scotland in the early to mid 19th Century. If you have searched the census records for 1841/51/61 etc can you you provide the full names of the parents, their place of birth and any other siblings living at the property? This information together with approximate time frames e.g. 1780, 1880, 1920 etc will help others reply to your queries. Also did Thomas and John have occupations in adulthood - who migrated overseas and when etc. Sincerely Maggie Flynn, Auckland NZ Maggie, Wayne David & Katy have scanned this email for Virusus or Viruseye using Norton System Works 2003 -------Original Message------- From: FLYNN-L@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, 14 April 2004 7:11:16 p.m. To: FLYNN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [FLYNN] Re: William/Mary son John Flynn This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
