Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4dW.2ACEB/1426 Message Board Post: I'm trying to find a Millard John Flynn, b in MN, who married a Florence K. Butcherman, b in NJ. This is a confusing family, as they are found in the 1920 Census for Spokane, WA and were also found in the 1920 Census for Chelan, WA! In the 1920 Census for Spokane, they were listed as living with Owen M. Snyder and Effie M. Snyder (nee Hilts and nee Flynn). Owen's three children from his first marriage were Merrill D., Winifred and George L., all born in MN. Effie's son Millard, his wife Florence and daughter Milred were also listed at the same address. In the 1920 Census for Chelan (Riverside Precinct), they listed Millard, Florence, Mildred, William E. and Norman C. According to the Wasington State Birth Index: 1907-1919, Norman Charles Flynn was born on 29 Jan 1913, parents M. J. Flynn and Florence E. Butcherman. William Earle Flynn was born on 11 May 1916, parent Millard John Flynn and Florence K. Butcherman. However, their was no birth record for Mildred, yet she was listed as 7 yrs of age in 1920, which would have had her being born in 1912 or 1913, so should have shown up on the Birth Index. In the 1930 Census for Chelan Co, WA, Wenatchee City, Precinct B, Millard, Florence, Mildred, Bille E. and Norman C. all appear. In the MN Death Index, they listed Millard's death as 3 Feb 1933 and being born on 24 Sept 1885 in Minneapolis. I can't find any death record for Florence either in WA or MN and Mildred, William "Billy" E. and Norman C. seem to disappear after that. Does anyone know about this family? Effie's first husband was my gr uncle, John C. Flynn, b in Watertown, NY and died in Spokane, WA 25 Dec 1887. Effie M. Snyder died on 17 Nov 1940 in Seattle, WA. This was sent to me and it might be of help to someone on the list. I came across this brief Flynn information in "The Irish Ancestor" magazine, Vol. XII, No.1, 1981. And thought you might be interested. The article was contributed by A.J. Delehanty to IA. "Mary Flynn's Family Register The entries are written on a blank page of a copy of "The Lives of the Most Eminent Saints of the Oriental Deserts, or the Wonders of God in the Wilderness, by Bishop Challoner, V.A.L., published by J. McLoughlin, 139 Center Street, New York, in 1841. Opposite the title page is signed the name "Mary Flynn." The signature is repeated on the blank page opposite that on which the entries are made, and below it, in the same hand but a different ink is written "Mary Flynn received this day the 5th of November in the year of our Lord 1862." On the facing page is, Patrick Flynn of Boley and parish of temple port County of Caven Ireland. John Flynn was born in the year 1833 Elizabeth Flynn was born 29 day of March 1834 Elizabeth Flynn died 2d of October 1834 Mary Flynn was born 18th of September 1836 William Flynn was born 27th of January 1838 Peter Flynn was born 18th of January 1841 Susan Flynn was born 14th of November 1843 Susan Flynn died 12th August 1849 (End of article) -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

I have started to add the New York Death Index for the Flynn surname (and variants) to the Flynn section of my website. So far I have 1922 and 1923 for all five boroughs on line. Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4dW.2ACEB/1418.2 Message Board Post: Jim, If you want to find more information on the family in Ireland Clonmel church registers would be your resource. You could check for the availability of microfilm copies thru a LDS Family History Centre. You can also check thru LDS for microfilm copies of Irish civil records which started in 1864. There are gaps in their microfilms, but you may be able to get some family detail from what's available. You could also request copies of James Flynn's long form birth cert from Co. Tipperary or the General Register Office in Dublin. Unfortunately, there are generally no surviving census returns for the 1800's for Ireland. However, the first complete Irish census is from 1901 and it may contain information on James Flynn's parents or perhaps other family members who remained in Ireland. Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4dW.2ACEB/1422.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Maija, Since William emigrated and the children were also in the US, you can check William's church and civil death record to see if he was born in Geashill also or somewhere else. His naturalization record too might give you his place of birth as well as his obituary, cemetery information and even tombstone. If you're not sure if the children were actually born in Geashill, you'd need to check their church and civil marriage and death records, their children's birth, baptism, marriage and death records also to firmly place the birth location in Geashill. The boys naturalization papers also may include more detail. Girls generally weren't naturalized. The boys may have been naturalized with their father. Often families who emigrated did that as a group. Following is a URL which will give you more detail on records you can check in the US for additional detail. While the URL also includes researching in Co. Kerry, the section "Where Do I Begin" is a list of research sources. Each item on the list has a link to more detail. http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlker/find.html The 1900 US census noted citizenship information including the date the emigrant was naturalised. You can access US census records thru a LDS Family History Centre. They have access to the census online and for many of the census records there's an index. For those that don't have an index, you would have to go through the census sheets of the place where that person lived. There are generally no surviving census records in Ireland for the 1800's and civil registration didn't start until 1864 so your prime source for research would be church registers. You might want to check at a LDS Family History Centre for availability of microfilm church registers for Geashill. You can read more about Co. It is my guess that there might be a record of their marriage in the Catholic dioceses in this area of Ontario just north of Toronto.
