I started because my children don't have any living relatives on my side of the family in Australia. Both of my parents have passed away and we lost all contact with our relations in England, so for their sake I have decided to show them they are not alone, so to speak. To answer your question I am not sure of the state of relations in England, I have both of my parents birth certificates and their wedding certificate, so I have at least got a good start, they go back to my grandfather, and from there I was linked to my great grandfather, on my fathers side who also came from England. Like you there are many versions of Flynn along the way. According to my parents when they were alive, we came from England, Ireland,Scotland and Wales so this should be quite an interesting journey trying to find out all the details of the past. I also started this on the hope I may find my sister Carol Pauline Flynn nee Cannon, who disappeared off the face of the earth over twenty years ago, dispite the fact there was a large police search back then, I thought she may have finally decided to start looking for her family if she is still alive, it would just be nice to know if she is. The one thing I have learned about the Flynn's they not only change there surname parents have changed the first and second name around, when I joined the army I received a copy of my birth certificate, only to find my name was Alice Dorothy, when I asked my mother she said she had a fight with her sister Alice and changed my name to her other sister Dorothy to teach her a leason.

In what part of the world do you live now? I have been searching my Flinn line for many years. I have surmised for many years MY immigrant "Laughlin Flyn(abt.1690-1758)came from England rather than Ireland. Do you know how long the Flynne,Flynn,Flinn line has lived in England? Here in Southside Virginia, USA, the County clerks spelled the surnames phonically and sometime several different ways in a single document. Around 1790 there was a John Flynne in one document. And our name has been spelled Flyn, Flin,Flinn,Flynn, and Flynne in a number of records I have searched. Hope to hear from you, Irvin

    3. I am new to this in particular list. I have been researching my gggrandfather, Thomas Flynn. There are a couple items about him, that unfortunately, areconflicting. I believe his birth date to be Feb 1838, in census's its listed as Feb 1845. I have been researching him locally for SEVERAL years and have YET been able to locate in any local records his origin in Ireland. Thomas was a marble cutter, and went in business for himself in Louisville, KY. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open for ANY. Debbie

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4dW.2ACEB/1509 Message Board Post: I have been researching my Flynn line for the last year or so and thought I would finally post some info. Timothy (cir. 1808)and Mary Flynn (Kelly) cir. 1818 were both born in Ireland and lived in Boston, MA since the early 1840's. Timothy is my GGGGrandfather. Their children were William (1844), Timothy J (1845), Mary A. (1847), Jeremiah (1848), Margaret (1851), John (1853), and Timothy (1856). Still researching descendants of William and Timothy J. Mary A., John, and Timothy #2 both died as infants. The Parents: Mary Flynn Kelly died in 1882 and Timothy Sr. in 1891. They are both buried at the North Cambridge Catholic Cemetery with at least all three infants that died. Margaret married Herman Johnson in 1881, and had at least three children. Herman died in 1899. Herman Johnson was from Prussia (Germany). Jeremiah is my GGGrandfather and had four children with his wife Annie T. (Jones): Mary and Jennie (twins 1873), Gertrude (1875) and Orlando (1877). Gertrude and Mary died as infants. Annie T. died (1878), a short time after giving birth to Orlando. Jeremiah died in 1915 and is buried with Annie, Gertrude, and Jennie in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA. Mary married a man by the name of James Naylor and had two children: James D. (1899) and George Bernard (1900). Mary died a year after giving birth to George Bernard. James D. and George B. were found living with or near a Flynn Family in Whately, MA. I am still trying to make that connection. Mary Naylor (Flynn) is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA. Orlando married Emma Crowley in 1903 and had William Edward, Dorothea, and Albert Wilson. I am still searching for information on Timothy Flynn Sr.'s siblings living in Boston, MA around the 1840 - 1880 time period. I am certain he had at least one brother who had a daughter Mary E. (cir 1860). Anyone with connections to the only Flynn family living in Whately, MA from 1860 through the 1900's, please contact me. Also, anyone with any connection to Richard Roche Flynn (1875), who arrived in Boston in 1893 and lived in Somerville, MA and Winthrop, MA, and married Georgianna Chamberlain in 1900, please contact me. Thier children were Harry M. (1911), Ella Mae (1904), and George R (1913). Still haven't found where in Ireland my line originates from. I have struck out so far with naturalization papers and gravsites. (Most of the graves listed above don't even have headstones). Hoping that siblings of Timothy may have naturalized.
