I don't think you will find a complete death index online. The LDS Family History Centers does have it on microfiche. (The Florida centers, at least.) They are on microfiche by year and alphabetized so if you don't know the year it may take a little searching. You can call the Vital Statistics center in Jacksonville but if so, BEWARE. It will ask if you want to order by phone and if you do to call an 800 number the recording provides. This number connects you with a private service and they charge tons. Something like $22 for the death certificate and $20 for processing and shipping. Vital Statistics charge $5.00 and that includes shipping. If you are not sure of the year, they charge an additional $2.00 a year to search.They also accept credit cards. To call.... (904) 359-6900 To write:,,, Vital Statistics... P.O. Box 210... Jacksonville, Fl. 32231. You don't need a special form... just type a letter telling what you want and include a check. Be sure to provide name, year of death, county of death. Jim
Thanks Jim, but I was thinking there was on one of the Rootsweb or Ancestry.com sites that had this information. I know I got all the Alabama and Kentucky death index off the internet "for free." We have the Alabama index on microfilm in a couple of local libraries.
