Doris Bessie Ward Doris Bessie Ward, 82, resident of Lake City, died Thursday, August 2, 2001, in the Health Center of Lake City following a long illness. Ward was a native of Live Oak, daughter of the late Ashley and Lota Johnson and had resided in Live Oak and Bainbridge, Ga., for many years prior to moving to Lake City two years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church, McAlpin. She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Gamble. Survivors include her husband, Henry M. Ward Sr; three sons: H. Mattox Ward Jr., W. Francis (Jo) Ward and Baynard (Judy) Ward, all of Lake City; two brothers: Ernest Johnson and Roy Johnson, both of Live Oak. Nine grandchildren: Marnie (Susan) Ward, William (Rhonda) Ward, Scott (Natalie) Ward, Darryl Ward, Ashley (Chris) Todd, Tracie (Donald) Dix, Baynard Ward Jr., Cassie Corbett and Darryl (Lorraine) Sargent; 12 great-grandchildren: Hank Ward, Brody Ward, A.J. Ward, Cody Ward, Cole Ward, Alexa Dix, Trey Dix, Kinsley Giebeig, Kyle Giebeig, Kaleb Giebeig, Brody Sargent and McCabe Sargent. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 4, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Elmer Gaskins officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
