    1. [FLSUWANN] Freeman's Bank
    2. I received this message from the Williamsburg County, SC Rootsweb site this morning. Perhaps there will be members on this site who would be interested in it. Virginia Adams The Mormon Church announced Monday that it had completed copying the records of the Freeman's Bank onto CD-ROM. The Freeman's Bank was set up in Southern states to help former slaves and black Civil War soldiers save money. In accepting the deposits the bank workers recorded the names and the family relationships of all account holders, sometimes giving a brief oral history. The Freeman's Bank was founded March 3, 1865, with 37 branches in 17 states. As many as 10 million people are descendants of the banks depositors. The data includes the date opened, where born and raised, lived, the name of former owner, family members names, and occupation and employer. More than 550 Utah State Prison inmates voluntarily assisted the church over 11 yrs in extracting half a million names and compiling them into a usable form. The CD cost $ 6.50 and can be ordered at www.familysearch.org"
