    3. I came across this today and thought it might be of interest to someone on the list....Winnette Louise Wiggins, 84, Homemaker Monday, April 30, 2001 LAKELAND -- Mrs. Louise Poucher Wiggins worked only two days of her life at a canning plant. That is, she only worked two days of her life to earn an income. The rest of her life she worked to help people who couldn't help themselves, and she didn't earn a dime. Until she became too sick to do so, Mrs. Wiggins would make sure the health of her neighbors, friends and family was in good order. "She took people to the doctor all the time. She was a neighbor to everyone and always there to help all the people who needed it," said her niece, Linda Starling of Lakeland. "She would go to Watson Clinic and spend hours or half a day with them." The Lakeland resident died Sunday (April 29, 2001) at Bartow Memorial Hospital with complications resulting from hip surgery. She was 84. Mrs. Wiggins was born in Live Oak on May 6, 1916, and grew up on a farm near the Suwannee River. After she met her husband and they dated for one year, they were married and moved to Lakeland. She and her husband were married for 61 years, an accomplishment Starling said marriages today rarely achieve. "Her stability was something you don't see today, and their commitment to each other is not seen today," Starling said. Starling said Mrs. Wiggins, a lifetime homemaker, was fulfilled by that role. "I admired her faithfulness to her home and her marriage," Starling said. "She was an old-fashioned homemaker." Starling said her aunt was a wonderful cook and named cracklin' cornbread and greens as her favorite dishes her aunt prepared. Most of the dishes Mrs. Wiggins prepared were made from fruits and vegetables she also grew herself. In her garden, she spent many hours tending to potatoes, squash, string beans, okra and tomatoes. "She came from the farm," Starling said to explain her aunt's self-efficient way of life. Mrs. Wiggins attended First Community Church in Highland City. In addition to her niece, she is survived by her husband, R.C. Wiggins; brothers, George Poucher and Billy Poucher, both of Live Oak; sisters, Mattie Curl, McAlpin, and Faye Cooper, Jensen Beach. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at A.M. Seigler Funeral Home in Mulberry. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
