Fl Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Fl/Suwannee/576 Surname: Brannan, Boatright, Curl, Hurst, Williams ------------------------- Sue, I have a little info on Elisha or (Elijah)Curl of Suwannee Co. Was born c. 1846 married Rachel Brannan 1864 in Suwannee. My info shows he served in the 3rd FL, Co. K during The War Between the States. His sister Mary Ann married W. Frank Brannan, son of Robert H. Brannan. Robert actually died as a POW in Elmira Prison, NY. Robert H. is my ggg-g'pa. The Curl, Brannan, Hurst families are all married up a bunch of ways.Martha A. Brannan, dau. of Frank and Mary Ann Brannan, married Jesse T. Hurst. I am still searching for Robert's wife Mary after the war. The last mention of her is the 1860 census. Hope this hasn't caused any confusion.

Fl Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Fl/Suwannee/575 Surname: HURST, THOMPSON, WILLIAMS ------------------------- I am looking for Simon (possibly Simeon)Elias THOMPSON born 1855 - 1857 in Florida. Family records indicate that birthplace was Suwannee County but no research so far substantiates this. I am looking now for information from the 1860 and 1870 Florida Federal Censuses for the Thomas Thompson family. They are listed on page 693 of the 1870 census and Page 512 of the 1860 (New River County[?]) census. If there is anyone who has access to the censuses for 1860 and 1870 please check to see if there is a Simon shown as a son of about 3 and 13, respectively. Steve

I am related through her second husband, Arlington Dillon Gaskins. They were my grandparents. Virginia

If this Robert is the same Robert who married Gertrude Scott, that means he would have been 54 when their daughter, Marion, was born. Do you suppose your Robert could have been one generation further back than the one I have asked about? Virginia

I have been told they lived in Lake City, SC...and Hamilton MAY have been a school "professor" or teacher. You say you live near where your great-grandfather is buried...is this in South Carolina? If it is in the Lake City/Kingstree/Florence area and there are Gaskins there, there is an excellent chance they are related to me some way. My grandfather, Arlington Dillon Gaskins, was from a large family and they ended up scattered all over South Carolina. I have a copy of a book researched and written by Jason Cockfield a couple of years ago which covers the Gaskins and their ancestors through 10 generations...starting with James Bigham of South Carolina's Pee Dee region. It covers the years 1773 through 1999. Virginia

Was Robert's mother named Mariah or Marian? I ask this since I was told Robert's middle name was Marian. Did you ever hear ANYTHING about Robert's wife, Gertrude Scott? You would think I would be able to easily find information on my own grandmother but she is a total enigma. Since she died when my mom was only around 2 years old and her stepmother did everything in her power to erase any and every memory of her mother, there is nothing I can find that even verifies she ever lived! Only one picture of her survived and I have a copy of it. It was taken just shortly before her death. One thing that really puzzles me is, when my grandmother died and was buried in Live Oak Cemetery, we often visited her gravesite when I was a child. A temporary marker was placed on her grave and a permanent one never replaced it...HOWEVER...the funeral home should have a record of where her grave is. There is absolutely no record of her being buried there...but she is! Why doesn't the funeral home have some kind of record? They have a plat of all the gravesites and there is absolutely no record of hers. My granddad, A. D. Gaskins, is also buried there...his gravesite is marked on the plat but they can't find the grave when we have searched for it. Most peculiar! Virginia
