Thanks Jim, but I was thinking there was on one of the Rootsweb or Ancestry.com sites that had this information. I know I got all the Alabama and Kentucky death index off the internet "for free." We have the Alabama index on microfilm in a couple of local libraries. I don't think you will find a complete death index online. The LDS Family History Centers does have it on microfiche. (The Florida centers, at least.) They are on microfiche by year and alphabetized so if you don't know the year it may take a little searching. You can call the Vital Statistics center in Jacksonville but if so, BEWARE. It will ask if you want to order by phone and if you do to call an 800 number the recording provides. This number connects you with a private service and they charge tons. Something like $22 for the death certificate and $20 for processing and shipping. Vital Statistics charge $5.00 and that includes shipping. If you are not sure of the year, they charge an additional $2.00 a year to search. They also accept credit cards. To call.... (904) 359-6900 To write:,,, Vital Statistics... P.O. Box 210... Jacksonville, Fl. 32231. You don't need a special form... just type a letter telling what you want and include a check. Be sure to provide name, year of death, county of death. Jim

Thank you again Elaine. That's nice of you to make the offer. Let me know if there is anything else I can do as far as information, although I really don't know much about John as I never met him before. Thanks Elaine, Another Lister already came forward to identify this John Avery as John Russell Avery Sr. Unfortunately, it's the wrong John. Mine was John M. Avery, son of John Matthew Avery who's last known address was in Ocala back in 1960. I guess the search continues. Thanks again for your offer. Don
The University of Florida P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History maintains newspaper microfilm for most of Florida's newspapers, including the Suwannee Democrat, which is Live Oak's newspaper. You might end up reading a month's worth of obituaries, but it might be worth it. I don't get down there very often because they don't have weekend hours, but would be glad to do a lookup if and when I do. Have you checked the Social Security Death Index file at Ancestry.com? (If I read your message, he died in 1982...???)--so should be listed. Also, does he appear in the 1920 census for Suwannee County? There is also a state census for 1935 and 1945. Good luck, Jayne King
Is there a listing in the Florida Death Index for John Avery, last residence was Live Oak, FL, b. 9/14/1913, died Nov. 1982 ? If I can get the full date, I'm hoping to find an obit. on him as he may be my Uncle. Thank you in advance. Don Massachusetts
I received this message from the Williamsburg County, SC Rootsweb site this morning. Perhaps there will be members on this site who would be interested in it. Virginia Adams The Mormon Church announced Monday that it had completed copying the records of the Freeman's Bank onto CD-ROM. The Freeman's Bank was set up in Southern states to help former slaves and black Civil War soldiers save money. In accepting the deposits the bank workers recorded the names and the family relationships of all account holders, sometimes giving a brief oral history. The Freeman's Bank was founded March 3, 1865, with 37 branches in 17 states. As many as 10 million people are descendants of the banks depositors. The data includes the date opened, where born and raised, lived, the name of former owner, family members names, and occupation and employer. More than 550 Utah State Prison inmates voluntarily assisted the church over 11 yrs in extracting half a million names and compiling them into a usable form. The CD cost $ 6.50 and can be ordered at www.familysearch.org"
Hi, Looking for Parents of Emily Hurst of Suwannee Co. FL m. 1870 to Thomas Green of Hamilton Co., FL. I would also like to know if she was born in Suwannee Co. or in GA. Selma
Do you have access to the book, "Discovering Genealogical Roots in Suwannee County" by Rev. Harold Bennett? It has a number of mentions of the Hurst and Thonpson families in the index. Posted on: Suwannee Co. Fl Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Fl/Suwannee/586 Surname: HURST, THOMPSON, WILLIAMS ------------------------- Sharon: My information on Chestley John Daniel BOATRIGHT and Rachel Geiger is consistent with what you have received. CJD died September 17, 1859 and is buried at Mosely Hall Cemetery, Madison County, FL. Rachel was the daughter of Felix Geiger, Sr. and Mary Margaret Martin (Did Rachel name her daughter after her mother?), who was the daughter of John A. Martin. When you get into your research of the HURST line, let me know. Steve
Posted on: Suwannee Co. Fl Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Fl/Suwannee/585 Surname: HURST, THOMPSON, WILLIAMS ------------------------- Sue: Simon THOMPSON's birth date of [abt] 1855 is what has been associated with HURST family trees where Elizabeth T. HURST appears. The 1880 Census shows Simon to be 23 and Elizabeth to be 17, which would make both assumed birth dates (Simon and Elizabeth) to be in error. Family history has both born in Suwannee County. I know when Elizabeth died but not Simon, nor do I know where the are buried. That has been the only information uncovered so far. I don't have any children shown for Rachel and Elisha. Their marriage license can be found in the Suwannee County Courthouse in Suwannee County Marriages, Volume 1, Page 16. Steve

Fl Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Fl/Suwannee/581 Surname: Curl ------------------------- Sue, I've yet to find a record of children of Elijah and Rachel Curl. I have found a reference in Suwannee to a Jesse Curl Jr.,possibly a brother to Elijah. I found a record of a Jesse Curl who served in CSA, died at Fredricksburg 02/19/63. He was born c. 1845.

I have not deeply researched this line yet, although hope to soon. However, according to our cousins, Joseph and Clarice Burval, who generously shared information with me..Mary was the daughter of Chestley John Daniel BOATRIGHT and Rachel GEIGER who were married in Wayne County, Georgia July 16, 1818. This BOATRIGHT family is listed on the 1850 Census for Columbia County, Florida and the 1860 Census for Suwannee County, Florida If you have any additions or corrections I would love to correspond with you, and will share any of my information with you. Thanks for responding, Sharon
