Hi, Where is Wellborn, I thought it was in Columbia Co.! Would love some nuts! Only kidding. Thanks
I don't have the Cemetery Book. The only information that I have is what is listed in "Discovering Genealogical Roots in Suwannee County" There are cemeteries listed in it, but it only goes up to the early 1900's so is not complete. I recall there were two large hickory trees just outside the fence at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery at Wellborn. Every fall I try to visit the cemetery and pick up a bag of those large tasty hickory nuts. They are near the double gate entrance. Now, don't you all go picking up my hickory nuts. They will make you fat. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Scott & Charlene Riva" <scriva@peoplepc.com> To: <FLSUWANN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2001 7:54 PM Subject: [FLSUWANN] Cheshire > Hi Louise, > The post that I just read from Ms. McCallister reminded me of something that has been a real mystery to me. Hi Louise, The post that I just read from Ms. McCallister reminded me of something that has been a real mystery to me. My G-Grandfather and G-Grandmother, Hardy Bryan and Mason Johns are buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Wellborn. The first time that I visited their graves, I noticed a small stone below Mason's grave that I "think" was that of Carolyn or Caroline Cheshire, who was Mason's mother. I may be wrong on the name on the stone. Do you show this in the cemetery book? Thank you for any insight. Charlene
Only Chesires in the Cemetary Records are in Philadelphia Cemetary: Levi H. Cheshire b. 1849, d. 1913 and Sarah H. Cheshire b. 1849, d. 1914. These records in this book only cover eearly 1900s. I would like to confirm the burial place of my great great grandfather, Dr. William J. Carroll, 5th Fla Infantry, buried in Suwannee County. Can you help? I know there is no marker, but the Live Oak Genealogy Society was previously able to tell me where he is buried. Thank you for any assistance, Regards, Charles R. Speh
I have been researching my Johnson Family who came from Alabama to Jasper around 1865, plus or minus a few years. John D. Johnson, and his mother Sarah A. Johnson, my GGGranddad, and GGGGrandmother came from the Dothan area of Alabama to Jasper. John D. married Narcissa Dees in 1874, and they had 4 children. Walter, Tom, Joe, and John V. Joe died at the age of 2 or 3, and John V. was my GGranddad. Have yet to determine what happened to Narcissa, but John D. remarried in 1895 to Millie Green in Live Oak. Walter, Tom, Joe, and John V. were all born in Jasper in the mid 1870's to the early 1880's. John D. and Millie Green had several more children, one of which was Albert Clay Johnson. John V. married Julia Warren in the early 1900's. She was born in Columbia County. Between them, there was Willie Milton, James Carvie, Seleaner Estelle, Homer, Audrey, Leroy, and Johnny Allen, all born in Live Oak. They all moved to Minneola, in the late 1920's or early 1930's. John V. died in Gadsden County in Dec. of 1953, and I have heard is burried in Marybelle Cemetery. Possibly in an unmarked grave. I beleive Homer is also burried in Live Oak, but do not know where. He died at the age of 7. Would like to find any information possible on Narcissa, and also would like to know the exact location of John V. and Homer. Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated.............Jimmy...........jimmyj0664@aol.com

Hello All... Am seeking any information I can find on a Johnson/Whatley connection in Suwanne and Lafayette County area. Grover Chapman Johnson, Sr. (b 11 Oct 1893 supposedly in Blackshear, Pierce County, GA, d 30 May 1950 in Jacksonville, Duval County, FL) married Annie Zell Whatley (b 19 Nov 1892 in Lafayette County, d 9 Jun 1967 in Miami, Dade County, FL) on 7 Nov 1917 in Lafayette County. This marriage is in the Lafayette County marriage books. Her parents were William Newman Whatley (b. 10 Sep 1852 in Baldwin, AL) and Temperance Ann Parker (b. 17 Feb 1864 in Live oak, FL). These are my grandparents, and since my father's death earlier this year there is no one left to supply any family history on his father's side so I am really having to dig. The family bible and all its information was lost sometime around 1979 when their first son Grover Chapman Johnson, Jr. died in Daytona Beach, FL and his property was disposed of by a landlady to whom he owed rent. Regretfully, my father (Bernard Alexander Johnson) was not at all interested in the family history and what little he related over the years was contradictory and incomplete. Grover's (Sr.) parents (we believe) were a John Quincy Johnson (b. aft. 1860 possibly in Pierce County, GA) and Mellie Chancey (b. aft. 1862 in Pierce County, GA). Her name could have been Millie Chancey or any combination of the names. Exactly when and where these people were born, where they died and when they died are all unknown as is their final resting place. There is record in the Chancey line of a Millie Chancey in Pierce County, GA at the right time, but no mention can be found of her spouse, or her date or place of death and/or burial. We believe that John and Mellie traveled to North Florida with their son sometime before 1900 and may have followed him and his wife to the Jacksonville area where they could be buried. However, since we can find no mention of them in burial/cemetary records in Duval County, it makes us think they also could have stayed in Live Oak and may be buried somewhere in the area. We believe Grover might have been one of several children, but their names and dates of birth are unknown, except for one... Albert who was suppsedly involved in some area of "the law". Interestingly enough, there was a Suwannee County Judge named Albert Clay Johnson (b. 4 Nov 1897, d. 24 Nov 1938). I have a resolution in memory of him from the USGenWeb Archives signed by the remaining judges in Suwannee County at the time. Except for his survivors, there is no mention of any other family members. In researching Albert Clay Johnson I find reference to his mother Mellie (or Mille) Green, and that his family came out of Alabama. Interesting... Whether or not he is any relation is unknown. In years past my father referred to aunts and uncles who lived and died in the Live Oak area and in Jacksonville. He even told a story when I was much younger of attending a funeral of a family member who died in Live Oak. Without the family bible and its information, I can only rely on the ramblings of my father who in his declining years in the last 20 years refused to even discuss his family. Much of what he said about the family was contradictory to what had been said in previous years, and much of what we believed as the truth of his own life has now been found to be so much smoke and so many mirrors. There was a lady named Anderson at the Genealogy Society in Live Oak several years ago when my wife and I started this quest to find our families and went to Live Oak to find the Whatleys... She was a walking talking encyclopedia of knowledge on the Whatley clan from the area. Took us to all the cemetaries, showed us where some of them lived, told us all the stories, and she knew them all... Regretfully she didn't know anything of the Johnson family I seek, but she sure knew the Wahtleys. Hopefully she is well and still involved. We would like to get up to see her again now that we are both retired. Any assistance in finding my Johnsons would be appreciated. B.
