    3. Hello, You may want to investigate over in Hamilton County. Tuten's were early settlers of Hamilton County 1830's. The Bell Tuten Cemetery is one of the earliest cemeteries in Hamilton County. Many of the Hamilton County families moved over the River into Suwannee County. My Burnetts and Baisden are two such families. Deborah Byrd

    3. Hi Mike, I don't have the answer to your query but I did find the name Daniel McAlpin mentioned 3 times in "Discovering Genealogical Roots in Suwanee County, Florida (late 1700's to early 1900's" by the Rev. Harold Borden Bennett. 1. He was a witness to the Will of Nancy M. Parshley, May 21, 1890. 2. He was State Representative for Suwannee County 1875-76 3. Live Oak Cemetery - Daniel Munn McAlpin b.1844, d. 1893 General statement on McAlpin: "I would like to give notice to the many Scottish names that have been settlers in this part of the world. I will list some common names with some background regarding heritage. 1). MacAlpin...son of Alpin, descended from Kenneth MacAlpine, an early ancestor of the Scottish kings,". There was also a McAlpin on the City Council in Live Oak in 1889. Hope this helps some, Rick -----Original Message----- From: Mike & Tammy [mailto:mikej1957@mindspring.com] Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2000 7:29 PM To: FLSUWANN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [FLSUWANN] Please help I am looking for a Mary Elizabeth Tuten, b. ~ 1836, SC. 2. Mike, I don't know anything about your Mary Elizabeth Tuten but the fact she may have been born in South Carolina caught my eye. I knew two Tuten families from SC. One, Jim Ed Tuten, and his family lived in Georgetown, SC. The other family Dr. & Mrs. Joe Tuten. He and Jim Ed were cousins. Dr. Tuten was a Baptist minister who was from South Carolina and lived in the Jackson, Mississippi area for many years where he was associated with Calvary Baptist Church. Do you suppose your Mary Elizabeth could be an ancestor of this family? Virginia in MS

    3. You might want to contact the Suwannee Valley Genealogical Society, as they have cemetery books and can possible do a look up for you. They are wonderful and very helpful. They have a lot of great research material, too. DFantore@aol.com wrote: > I am looking for a Hughes family headed by Adam Hughes born before 1876, > possibly in Live Oak. Pat Jones Smith BRIDGETON MEMORIAL PARK Bridgeton, Missouri 1843 -------- 1963 This burying ground at 4616 Long Road was made into a memorial park in 1962. In 1959 several lawsuits were filed against the City for allowing the cemetery to deteriorate. Individual stones had already been removed "through error and misunderstanding" but members of the Bridgeton Historical Commission were able to learn the names of some who were buried there and a large monument was erected in 1963 which bears this inscription, "We honor the people buried here. They were part of this nations adventure and their vision lighted the path we follow today." At the dedication ceremonies, Mrs. Anna Wilson gave a talk about colored veterans who are buried here. Records indicate that the cemetery was integrated from its beginning in 1858. It was in use as late as 1954 and at least 100 people are buried in the two acres. On the bronze plaque of the monument are the following names: Annie Adams Auston Edwards Enoch Mumps Edward Walker Benjamin Adams Auston Edwards, Jr. Elio Phillips Kit Walker George Adams Grace Edwards Eliza Phillips Lizzie Walker Lottie Adams Katie Edwards Ike Phillips Quiller Walker Ben Alexander The Galliger Family Tilly Phillips Tommy Walker George Alexander Almiria Grannison Walter Phillips Barbara White Henry Alexander Creed Hall Bell Pruitt John White Lucy Alexander Creed Hall, Jr. The Pueroa Family Noah White Eugene Allen Hillard Hall Fred Riddle Shibina White Arthur Bassett Hiram Hall James Robertson Alice Wilson Dr. William Berry Jack Haggerty Will Rush Ernest Wilson Febie Bivens The Heidron Children Baron Scott Geroge Wilson George Bivens Lizzie Hodge Louise Scott Theodore Woodson Lizzie Bivens Steve Hodge Lydia Scott Baby Woolfolk Millie Bivens The Horn Family Laura Smith Hadley Woolfolk Rafe Bivens Nasrus Jackson Roberta Stanton Gibson Wright Samuel Bivens Amy Johnson Lewis Stevenson Hiram Wright Cosley Black George Johnson Fred Steward Mamie Wright Edward Black Julia Johnson Henry Stocker Green Young Hiram Black Robert Johnson Joseph Taylor Mary Ann Young King Black Turner Johnson Abe Thompson Skip Young Sam Balck Mr. Knight Henry Thompson Bell Carter Henry Lewis Hiram Thompson Lilly Cheeks Hal Lint Jenny Thompson Henry Clanton Luvenia Lint Mamie Tucker Fred Dickson The McClure Family Barney Vonsray Joe Duglas, Jr. Jessie Moore Texas Hall Wadlington This list was given to me by The Missouri Historical Society P.O. 1. [FLSUWANN] Fw: [GA-CEMETERIES] Cemetery restoration
    2. Greg & Winn
    3. Forwarded with permission from Harriett Grace. I thought we all could benefit from this...Maybe some of us or someone we know would do the same thing. I have been really concerned about this as recently my child's gravestone was damaged in Laurel Hill Cemetery by the lawn mowers of the caretakers. This prompted me to check all the others. There is a great deal of damage that appear to be caused by the same thing. This made me wonder if in the future her gravestone was destroyed and none of my family was left, who would care enough to replace or repair it.....Winnette ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harriett Grace" <hgrace@sowega.net> To: <GA-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 09, 2000 9:09 AM Subject: [GA-CEMETERIES] Cemetery restoration All this talk about cemetery restoration prompted me to write this letter about my cousin, John D. Willcox, from Eastman, Georgia. After he retired from his construction company he adopted the hobby of restoring the family cemeteries and graves. Most of these were in Dodge, Telfair and Wilcox counties. His familiarity and expertise with construction equipment and machinery made it easy for him. He ordered stones in bulk to be engraved later and found lost graves with a metal detector. He placed memorial stones for those who had died in other states or countries. He had a memorial stone placed in Sand Grove Cemetery beside my great grandmother, Sally Willcox Ryals, for my great grandfather, John J. Ryals who died in Virginia while in Confederate service and is buried in Mt. Jackson, Virginia. I asked him once if this wasn't a terribly expensive hobby he had adopted. He said he didn't spend any more money on it than most people spent on boats, motors, fishing equipment and ot! her recreatrional pursuits. After his death he left a trust and appointed a board of trustees to see that the cemeteries were maintained as he wanted them to be kept for years to come. I realize everybody can't do this on the same scale that he did, nor would everybody want to. He was just one person so think what a dedicated group could do. I'm just proud it happened in my family.
