I am interested in any information on Pinehurst Seminary, especially the day-to-day activities of the school. It was open (I believe) from the late 1800's to the early 1900's, and was located in 'Little Switzerland', I think. If anyone has any information, or knows where I could get information on the school, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Julie Sent from my iPad

Tracey, I searched the Internet and saw a lot of web sites mentioning Thomas Jefferson Mott, but none mentioned a ship name. The Family Search web site ( https://familysearch.org/ ) has links to several records, such as death records, of men by that name. J. G. Have you run across the surname Mott on any ships that put in at Cape ear, NC, on the St. Johns, or any other port of call in the Southeast? My theory is that Thomas Jefferson Mott's father (possibly Moses Mott) ailed into and/or jumped ship in Wilmington, NC. (There is a Moses Mott hat died in Wilmington in the correct time frame) There is family legend that one of our Mott's (possibly de La Motte) was anged from the yardarm of a ship for piracy. There is always a grain of ruth in our legends! I suspect that since T.J. Hi, fellow members of the lilst. This Sunday, October 3, there is the 100 year Centennial Celebration at the Orange Street School from 2-5 with lots of photos and exhibits. If you drop by, there will be a lot of Pinkhams to talk to about St. Augustine in the late 1800 and early 1900, plus lots of photos with lots of people who were alive then and involved in the community. You might see someone who is an ancestor. W. S. M. Pinkham was the Superintendent in 1910 and was photographed with schoolteachers, government officials, etc. Did I mention free food and drinks? Judy Canova of Starke, Florida was a Broadway, vaudeville and film star. She was a friend of relatives. Her biography is at: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0134411/bio Hope this is useful to you. Those interested in the Minorcans in Florida might check out my webpage, http://www.mccown.org . I am not a descendant but my grandson is on one grandmother's side. The lines go way back. My goal is to document these folks with church records, etc. and I have been making good use of the Menorcan Project Microfilm with marriages and baptisms. I collect on down to the present, but of course info on living does not show on the page, NOR do my research notes. However, I do share, if you share, with folks of that line. Give it a try, what do you have to lose. Leonard

I knew this would be a good list to join. I am doing a section in the FLGenWeb pages on pioneers of Florida. I would love to add the bios of those who were here whenever. There is a section in the archives of those here at statehood in 1845 and on each county for those living there when the county was created. There is much written about the movers and shakers of the area but little on the everyday person who contributed by growing food, working in the area and helping others. These are the people I like to concentrate on. Of course, the others are important and are added also. I just want the list to know it doesn't matter the status of the person except that they were born, lived or died in St. John's County. I am not the list admin. -just someone interested in seeing our history kept available free. Using the Fl Death Index 1877-1998, I have located some entries and now I want to get full certificates. Anyone know if the 'State file number' box on the certificate application is related to the 'Guide' or "Vol' column on the index? On the Index, if the data under 'Guide' is "card", what does this mean? I noticed some entries have a number and some have "card". Thanks all.

It may be time to "think outside of the box" (or "outside of the county"). I am not joking about this. W. S. M. Pinkham's Death Certificate shows he died in Putnam County-- a mistake! He died in 1927 at 20 Cuna Street in St. Augustine, had his funeral in St. Augustine and was buried in the family plot in Evergreen. He never left the county in his last illness. Someow a mistake was made and "Putnam" was entered on the Death Certificate. It may take some searching outisde St. Johns County--no guarantee that's what happened. I don't want to bore you with three other happenings that immediately come to mind. I printed out your email and will remember to keep in mind a missing "Ponce."
