    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: LYMAN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oZ.2ADI/226.2 Message Board Post: My husband's grandfather was MB(Morris Benson) LYMAN. His mother,Rachel Marie LYMAN married August W. ANDERSON,also of Lantana. I looked in a copy of "Early Lantana, Her Neighbors and More" by the late Mary Collar Linehan, Published by Byron Kennedy & Co., St. Petersburg,FL 33733 On pg 33 it reads"Halfway between these two Lyman dwellings was a hotel---at least for a few short years. No definite date has been established for when it was built, but it was run by RICHARD J. and LILLIAN BASSETT. Lillian was the sister of M.B. and George. The Pierce manuscript states that Lilly was born in 1889. The Lantana Hotel is shown on an early map, mentioned in a 1896-97 directory of Dade County, and Daisy Butler(Mrs George R. LYMAN), in an interview, stated she livd at the BASSETT HOTEL for the 1895-96 school year. it was also lodging for the "drummers" (salesmen), railroad workers on the Florida East Coast Railway and visitors to Lantana. Another proof the Bassetts were here at that time is the name of MAURICE BASSETT, age 6, listed as a pupil in the Lantana School in the Youth Census of June 1896..As a child, Rachel Lyman Anderson found smooth pieces of glass at the hotel s! ite. She was told that the hotel burned down oneday while the Bassetts were visting in Delray." On the same page is an advertisment from The Tropical Sun:Thursday, February 1,1894 for Lantana Hotel "South End of Lake Worth,Terminus of the Bay Biscayne Hack Line, The best freash waater fishing on largest freash water Lakes on the Lower East Coast Open all the year rates, $2 per day, special rates (unable to read) , 8-1-93, R.J. Bassett, Prop'r. Lantana,Dade County,Florida". There is a 2nd book by Mary Collar Linehan and co-author Marjorie W. Nelson "PIONEER DAYS ON THE SHORES OF LAKE WORTH 18873-1893", published 1994 by same press, pg 71 states "George R. Lyman came to the shores of Lake Worth before 1887. His brother M.B. Lyman was about 10 yrs his senior. Their sister, Lillian(Mrs Richard) Bassett, with her husband, ran the Lantana Hotel for a short time." Will be happy to exchange family history notes with you.
