I'm researching the surnames Pomeroy, Holmes and Robb. My searches have taken me from England, Ireland and Scotland to Canada, on to Michigan and finally to Florida which is where I was born. The ancestor I'm presently researching is William Pomeroy who was born in Croswell, Michigan but moved to Jensen, Florida, and married Georgina Smith Holmes, who was also from Michigan. His brother, James, also came to Florida. In the early part of the 1900's, they owned and operated pineapple plantations along the eastern coast. Georgina Smith Holmes brother James Holmes was involved in the pineapple industry and was very prominent in the area. Around 1915, these plantations were no longer profitable and the land was sold and William Pomeroy purchased a grocery store in central Florida. In the course of my searching, I have found that there is a published history and genealogical record in the West Palm Beach library on Clematis Street. From a previous message on this list, I see that there is also a Genealogical Society that is based in this library. I was hoping that there would be someone in the West Palm Beach area that would be willing to find out if this book is in fact at the library and if it was written by my ancestor William Pomeroy. I believe the name of the record to be "History and Genealogy of the Pomeroy Family". I am in Omaha, Nebraska and won't be coming to Florida in the near future. Is there anyone willing to help?
